Full Time Compensation:
The estimated pay for this position is $19.2030 to $25.8072. This reflects only a portion of the total compensation package for this position. Additional compensation may be available for this role through differentials, incentives, and bonuses.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
This is the entry level in the cook series. Positions in this class normally involve the performance of closely supervised routine and repetitive tasks according to established procedures. While a variety of tasks may be assigned, each step usually follows a pattern which has been established and explained; in the event exceptions arise the employee is expected to ask for directions. Those who successfully complete training and meet the minimum requirements for Cook II may be promoted without further examination. Promotions to Cook II are considered on a merit basis subject to recommendations by the employee's department head and approval by the Director of Personnel.
Essential Functions:
Prepares, cooks, and seasons, soups, meats, fish, poultry, vegetables, desserts and other foods. Follows master recipes in the preparation of food. Prepares food for freezing; operates grill, deep fat fryer, steam cooker, slicers, mixers and other related equipment. Assists in cleaning equipment and area after meals. Serves food.
Other Functions:
Performs other related duties as required.
Employment Standards:
One year of experience as a cook in a full service restaurant or an institutional kitchen preparing food in quantity or one year of experience as a Food Service Worker II or a combination of education, training and/or experience sufficient to obtain the knowledge and skills to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
Knowledge of :
The methods of preparing food in large quantities and considerable variety; kitchen sanitation and food storage; and personal cleanliness and neatness. Ability to : Read, understand and follow recipes and prepare quantities of food required with a minimum of waste; accurately record information regarding menus and supplies; organize work and establish priorities in preparing meals.

A background check may be conducted for this classification.
