As a full-time prep cook, you will be responsible for preparing ingredients, following recipes, and assisting in all aspects of food preparation for retail sales floor and cafe items. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food and cooking, attention to detail, and the ability to work well in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Key Responsibilities Prepare ingredients by washing, peeling, chopping, cutting, and portioning as directed. Assist in cooking and preparing various food items according to recipes and quality standards. Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, including proper storage of food and sanitation of work areas. Follow proper food handling techniques and kitchen safety procedures. Assist with receiving and storing deliveries and rotating stock and keeping food storage areas clean. Collaborate with kitchen team members to ensure smooth and efficient food preparation and service. Perform other duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager. Requirements Proven experience as a prep cook or kitchen assistant in a similar role preferred. Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices. Food handlers certificate required. Ability to follow instructions and procedures accurately. Basic understanding of cooking methods, ingredients, and equipment. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Good interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with the Kitchen Manager and team members. (English and Spanish speaking is beneficial but not required) Preferred Qualifications Experience with volume food preparation in a restaurant or catering environment. Familiarity with kitchen equipment and utensils. Physical Requirements Stand and walk for extended periods of time. Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to bend, reach, twist, and perform repetitive motions. Comfortable working in refrigerated areas and near hot equipment. Ability to safely use knives, slicers, and other kitchen equipment. Ability to work in close proximity to coworkers in a crowded kitchen or serving area. What Success Looks Like Consistently produces high-quality food that meets The Cheese Store's standards.
