It's where palates are exposed to a variety of international cuisines of comfort. The Dining Services Cook assists the Dining Chef Manager in preparing breakfast and lunch. In addition, this roll will also assist in food preparation for catered School events, which may occur in the evenings and/or on Saturdays. The person in this role is expected to adhere to all laws and regulations regarding food and workplace safety. The Dining Services Cook reports to the Assistant Director of Dining Services. Major Functions and Responsibilities Be aware and understand the Flintridge Preparatory School policies and procedures. Prepare a wide array of international dishes according to menu or requests. Prepare food items for breakfast, lunch, and catered School events in a manner which preserves food freshness, quality, and appeal. Assists Chef Manager in utilizing batch cooking techniques to avoid over or under production. Maintain production records of food usage. Set up food stations according to menu needs. Takes initiative and ownership for the highest level of food and service. Foster a warm, inclusive environment for students. Assist Chef Manager and kitchen staff members with ensuring the kitchen is clean, organized, efficient, on-time, and consistent. Follow appropriate food holding & storage temperature guidelines. Receives food & produce deliveries and assists in putting them in appropriate storage locations. Keeps inventory of all food items to include monitoring & leading all staff members in keeping storage locations clean & organized. Cleans and sanitizes work areas and equipment daily; deep-cleans equipment and work areas as necessary. Assists in receiving food & produce deliveries and assists in putting them in appropriate storage locations. If work shift requires, properly open and close the kitchen unlocking/locking doors & secured areas, turning on/off of all the equipment essential to the operation. Assist Chef Manager in ordering and inventory. Adapt and support other stations as instructed during team shortages. Supervise the cleaning and sanitization of work areas and equipment daily. Prepare and distribute food and water during emergencies. Assist the School with tasks during the summer season. Skills & Qualifications Required High School Diploma or equivalent with at least 2 years of relevant work experience. ServSafe certification or CA Food Handler card. Ability to use various kitchen equipment such as grills, ovens, fryers, stoves, etc. Ability to adjust to new menus, recipes, and cooking techniques. Knowledge of food safety and sanitation guidelines. Strong culinary skills and time management. Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and overtime in support of food preparation for catered School events or coordinate with another team member to cover shift prior to one week of scheduled shift if you have an occasional commitment. Dependable and reliable. High attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Excellent guest service skills. A great work ethic and communication skills, be easy & flexible to work with, and take initiative and ownership of any situation. Ability to work on a team. Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Salary & Benefits This position is full-time, onsite, and year-round with an expected hourly rate of $21.00, depending on skills and experience.
