The Cook is responsible for preparing nutritious, appetizing meals for residents in accordance with physician-prescribed diets, food safety regulations, and facility standards. The ideal candidate is committed to providing high-quality food service while contributing to a positive dining experience for our residents. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prepare and cook meals according to standardized recipes, therapeutic diets, and menu plans. Ensure food is prepared, portioned, and served in compliance with dietary restrictions and physician orders. Review production sheets and prepare meals in accordance with daily census and resident needs. Maintain proper food temperatures during preparation, holding, and service. Follow all federal, state, local, and facility food safety and sanitation guidelines. Properly store, label, and rotate food products using FIFO (First In, First Out) practices. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen equipment, workstations, and food preparation areas. Assist with inventory management and report supply needs to the Dietary Manager. Work collaboratively with dietary aides, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members. Participate in department meetings, in-services, and training programs. Ensure resident satisfaction by preparing meals that are appealing and meet quality standards. Assist during inspections, surveys, and audits as needed. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous cooking experience in healthcare, long-term care, skilled nursing, hospital, or institutional food service preferred. Knowledge of therapeutic diets and texture-modified diets preferred. Ability to follow recipes, menus, and dietary instructions accurately. Understanding of food safety, sanitation, and infection control practices. Excellent time management and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Certifications Current Food Handler's Card or ServSafe Certification (required or preferred based on state regulations). Must maintain all required certifications throughout employment. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds. Ability to work in hot, cold, and fast-paced kitchen environments. Frequent bending, reaching, stooping, and repetitive hand movements.
Pay:
$19.00 - $21.00 per hour
