Our work environment includes:
On-the-job training Safe work environment Food provided This position is responsible for the daily preparation of food items to support the operation of the kitchen. It is up to you to provide fresh and delicious meals that are presented in a timely manner and meet quality and presentation standards. Prep Cook's duties will include gathering food items, maintaining a clean work area, and following quality assurance principles. You will be required to use various kitchen utensils, equipment, and tools. You should be able to follow recipes and procedures and read the labels of necessary ingredients. This position requires constant standing, moving, and reaching to cook food orders on a cooking line. Communication skills are also important, as you'll need to coordinate with others to promote a positive environment in the kitchen. Maintaining ethical and professional boundaries is a must. Attention to detail is also important as you'll use recipes for preparing food items. Finally, the Prep Cook must be able to read time clocks and have an understanding of basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
Responsibilities:
Prepare ingredients and bakeware according to recipes. Calculate weights, ratios, and other measurements to complete recipes. Keep tools and work area clean, sanitary, and organized. Work quickly and safely to ensure the quality of output. Maintain a clean and sanitary pantry and storage area. Wash utensils and storage containers as required. Keep track of the temperatures of the refrigerators and freezers. Mark all food with dates and times before putting in the refrigerators and freezers. Properly rotate all non-perishable items on the shelves according to their expiration date.
Knowledge and Skills Requirements:
Minimum, HS diploma or GED Food handlers certificate CPR/First aid certified Valid driver's license TB Test required (yearly) Sensitivity to low-income families of diverse backgrounds Ability to work independently Good verbal and written communication skills Healthy, professional, and ethical boundaries are a must Understanding the disease concept of addiction and basic knowledge of the 12-step program and harm reduction model is strongly recommended
