We specialize in chef-crafted Ethiopian cuisine made from scratch with high-quality ingredients and careful attention to detail. We are seeking a dependable, experienced, and hardworking Prep Cook / Kitchen Assistant to support daily kitchen operations in a fast-paced but collaborative environment. Position Overview This role is primarily focused on food preparation, kitchen support, order assembly, and service execution. The ideal candidate has prior commercial kitchen experience, works cleanly and efficiently, and takes pride in consistency, organization, and quality. This is not a head cook position. Most menu items are prepared in advance; however, the role does involve plating and serving prepared dishes, as well as limited cooking for select made-to-order items such as tibs. Experience with Ethiopian cuisine is a plus, though not required. Responsibilities Prepare ingredients for daily service, including washing, peeling, chopping, portioning, and marinating vegetables and meats Assist with prep for stews, lentils, vegetables, sauces, and side dishes Plate and serve prepared dishes according to presentation and portion standards Prepare limited cook-to-order items such as tibs during service Package takeout and delivery orders carefully and accurately Support batch cooling, labeling, storage, and inventory organization Follow food safety, sanitation, and kitchen procedures at all times Assist with catering prep, special events, and occasional farmers market preparation Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workstation throughout shifts Wash dishes, utensils, kitchen equipment, and prep containers Assist with end-of-day kitchen cleaning, including sweeping, mopping, and taking out trash and recycling Requirements Minimum two years of kitchen or prep cook experience required Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment Strong attention to cleanliness, organization, and detail Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 40 lbs Reliable transportation and punctuality Food Handler Certification preferred, or willingness to obtain Passion for food service and hospitality Preferred Qualities Interest in being part of a small and growing business Self-motivated with a strong work ethic Team-oriented, respectful, and adaptable Ability to take initiative and work independently when needed Schedule Part-time, approximately 25-30 hours per week Must be available Wednesday-Sunday Weekend availability required Evening availability required Compensation Starting pay: $19/hour Staff meals during shifts Opportunity for growth along with the business
