Dietary Cook

Dietary Cook Job Summary:

The primary purpose of this job position is to be responsible for the preparation of assigned menu items according to standard recipes and department procedures. The incumbent must possess a general knowledge of all cook positions and understand the HAACP/Food Safety Program to ensure the highest degree of quality resident care is maintained at all times.

High Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED required or must be enrolled for completion of High School Diploma Minimum of one year kitchen experience in a hospital, skilled nursing facility, or other related medical facility Possess leadership ability and willingness to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel Knowledgeable of kitchen procedures, cooking characteristics of various cuts of meats, and names and contents of dishes, etc.

Special Requirements:

Must be able to cook a variety of foods in large quantities Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language Possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant Possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public Knowledgeable of food service areas for sanitation, order, safety, and proper performance of assigned duties

Physical Demands:

Must be able to bend, stoop, lift, stir, and move intermittently throughout the workday Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that enable these senses to function Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies. Works in well-lit and ventilated areas. Atmosphere is warm from cooking. May be exposed to hot/cold temperatures in kitchen and storage areas. Subject to falls, cuts, burns from equipment, hot foods, infectious diseases, odors, etc.
