Cook, Lake Buena Vista Learning Center Lake Buena Vista, FL • Early Education Job Type Full-time Description Position Summary This individual will be responsible for providing excellent quality of food and service to enrolled children at the YMCA of Central Florida Learning Centers located at the Walt Disney World Resort. above all else, we are on a relentless quest to make our community stronger beginning with you. We are the Y. Job Responsibilities Prepare nutritious meals and snacks for enrolled children. Prepare substitute items for children on restricted diets, if applicable. Assist Family Center leadership in overseeing the operations of the food program, including hygiene, meal planning and preparation, food distribution to rooms. Ensure cleanliness and safety of kitchen facilities at all times in compliance with all Child Care Food Program guidelines requirements and all public health regulations regarding food storage and preparation. Maintain the quality and inventory of the supplies, equipment and materials of the food program. Process food orders, as well as unload and stock supplies. Must provide a safe and healthy environment, both physically and mentally, to ensure the operation of a quality food program. Must work toward positive parent/staff relations to ensure satisfaction with the food program. Requirements Must be at least 18 years of age or older. High School Graduate or Equivalent Strongly Preferred. Minimum 2 years of commercial cooking experience required. Food Handlers Certification and HACCP Training required. Must be able to prepare quality meals for large groups, follow recipes, and meet nutritional needs for family style and pre-portion style serving. Experience working in an environment consisting of children, such as a childcare facility environment preferred. Must possess an understanding of all state or local regulations. Must be able to communicate, read and write in English to prepare meals, identify food allergies / restrictions, meal planning, ingredients, and ensure appropriate food hygiene. Work Environment & Physical Demands Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, which may include weekends and holidays as needed. Must be willing to work an on-call schedule rotation as required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The physical activities of this position include: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions. May be required to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. in various forms, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The employee must be able to perform medium work. May be required to sit, stand, or maintain physical activity for extended periods of time. Must exhibit patience and understanding. Receives and follows detailed instructions. Must be alert at all times, keeping safety in mind. Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities in order to monitor environment and children's well-being. Talking is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, with or without correction Must be capable of working under pressure in a somewhat disruptive environment.
