Full Job Description Cook I Schedule:
This full-time position offers a 40-hour work week with a flexible schedule. Hours may vary and can include nights and weekends. The general schedule is from 12pm
- 9pm, 1pm
- 10pm or 2pm
- 11pm, allowing for a dynamic and engaging work environment.

Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Cook I to join our dynamic team in the Dining Commons. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing a wide range of high-quality foods, from general meal preparations to specialized dishes. Your attention to detail, commitment to cleanliness, and ability to follow schedules are crucial in this role. Under the guidance of a Cook 2 or Chef, you will have the opportunity to hone your culinary skills and contribute to an outstanding dining experience.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Prepare a wide variety of meats, fowl, fish, and vegetables for lunch and dinner. Create delicious dishes including eggs, bacon, hot cereal, stews, souffles, and more. Operate standard cooking equipment such as mixing machines, steam cookers, toasters, food choppers, refrigerators, baking ovens, and stoves. Supervise and participate in the cleaning of kitchens, refrigerators, and storerooms. Lead and instruct workers assisting in food preparation. Complete computerized production sheets in a timely and organized manner. Follow recipes to execute dishes in an efficient and safe manner. Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies:
Solid foundation in food preparation, cooking, and food service Previous experience in a restaurant or kitchen setting Strong knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in large-scale food preparation. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and collaborate effectively with team members. Ability to read a recipe and translate it into cooking procedures. Knowledge of safe food handling practices and sanitation guidelines Basic reading, writing, and math skills. Successful completion of a department-sponsored food safety training program within 6 months of hire.
Physical Demands:
Ability to move loads up to 50 lbs, including unloading and stocking products. Engage in push/pull activities with products weighing up to 30 lbs. Perform repetitive motions of wrists, arms, and shoulders, with excellent hand and finger coordination. Reach, climb, balance, crouch, twist, crawl, and kneel as needed. Work in noisy, hot/cold environments with exposure to chemicals, cleaning equipment, dust, fumes, and odors. Stand for long hours. Why Work with Us?
