PLEASE NOTE
This is a full-time role, to include some weekends, holidays and special events . This is a benefits eligible position. The successful candidate must be able to pass an IDPH background check, must pass a pre-employment physical, and must pass a pre-employment drug screening. As part of a small team, the Cook shares some responsibility for kitchen cleaning tasks, including dishwashing. CSJ La Grange Park Center offers a peaceful and caring work environment. We are looking for a skilled, caring, friendly and attentive Cook to join our team. Under the guidance of the Director of Food Service, the Cook follows the daily schedule and instructions, and may assist with various tasks relative to the smooth operation of the department, inclusive of prep, cooking and cleaning. Essential Functions:
Prepares meals which may include breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner for residents and guests. This may include baked goods, entrees, salads, and other cold foods. Responds to guests and residents' needs. Maintains appropriate rapport with Residents. Assists with special events such as banquets, receptions, meetings, etc. Prepares trays for residents who are not able to come to the dining room to eat. Maintains sanitary and safe working environment. Ensures high quality standards in food preparation, nutritional requirements, and guest service. Follows recipes and guidelines to ensure consistency in food product. Provides assistance to all areas of department as the need arises and performs other related functions as needed, assigned, or delegated. This may include assistance with menu planning, ordering, inventory, recipe development. Other duties as assigned. Desired Skills & Experience:
Ability to communicate in a pleasant and professional manner with supervisors, guests, employees and residents. Ability to work as a team player, following instructions, learning routines, and carrying out responsibilities so that dining times and food service operations run smoothly. Ability to operate a variety of appliances, kitchen equipment and handle sharp instruments. Must be able to read and follow instructions and carry out instructions. Must be able to read and follow instructions relative to the job including operating manuals for appliances, recipes, safety procedures, etc. Experience in a commercial kitchen, school kitchen, or dietary department desirable. Experience with elderly or geriatric population desirable. Education:
High School diploma or GED required. Formal food service or culinary training preferred. ServSafe certification preferred. Working Conditions:
At times, the kitchen can be noisy and extremes in temperature can be experienced. Use of sharp instruments and various appliances. Exposed to laundry/dishwashing detergents and chemicals. Physical Activity Requirements:
Ability to be on one's feet for extended periods of time in service of guests. Ability to lift objects weighing 25 pounds. Able to stoop, bend, reach. May be exposed to extreme temperatures when going into the freezer and/or when operating the oven.
