Job Description

Friends' Marketplace is a family-owned grocery store and garden center in downtown Orleans, MA. We've built a unique food business that combines the energy of retail with the creativity of a full-service kitchen — preparing fresh chef-made meals, side dishes, salads, sandwiches, soups, and other ready-to-go meal solutions for our customers every day. We're looking for an experienced Cook / Prepared Foods Team Member who takes pride in quality, consistency, and creating food that customers are excited to bring home and enjoy. This is a great opportunity for someone who loves cooking but is looking for a more stable, predictable schedule than a traditional restaurant environment. Responsibilities Prepare fresh meals, side dishes, salads, soups, and other prepared foods for our cold case, hot bar, and grab-and-go meal programs Chop, slice, dice, and prep fresh ingredients efficiently and consistently Follow recipes, production sheets, and portion standards Maintain high standards for food quality, taste, presentation, and consistency Package, label, date, rotate, and properly store all food items Monitor product levels and replenish items throughout the day, including supporting our hot bar as needed Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen workspace Follow all food safety, sanitation, and food handling procedures Work collaboratively with other kitchen and store team members to deliver an outstanding customer experience Physical Requirements This is an active, on-your-feet role throughout the shift Frequent lifting, carrying, bending, reaching, and standing required Ability to lift and handle ingredients, boxes, and kitchen products up to 30-50 lbs Qualifications 2+ years of hands-on cooking or professional kitchen experience required Strong knife skills and comfort working with fresh ingredients Ability to follow recipes, production sheets, and quality standards consistently Strong attention to detail, cleanliness, and organization Able to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment Positive attitude and team-first mindset Compensation & Benefits $22-$25/hour based on experience 401(k) with company match Paid time off (PTO) Stable, year-round position with opportunity for growth 30% employee discount — a meaningful benefit that helps reduce everyday grocery costs What makes this role unique Consistent scheduling No late-night restaurant shifts Opportunity to cook high-quality food in a creative, growing food business This role is best suited for someone who genuinely loves cooking, takes pride in execution, and wants to create food they'd be proud to serve to their own family.
