Cook (Full-Time & Part-Time)
ROLE OVERVIEW
The Cook is responsible for preparing high-quality meals that meet the nutritional needs of residents while maintaining strict food safety and sanitation standards. Working under the direction of the Food Service Director or Assistant Director, this role helps ensure a smooth kitchen operation and a positive dining experience for residents, staff, and visitors.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Prepare and cook meals in accordance with approved menus and recipes Ensure food is ready and served according to scheduled meal times Follow portion control and dietary guidelines for all residents Assist with meal plating and tray accuracy when needed Direct and support kitchen staff in the absence of department leadership Help manage food supplies and minimize waste
FOOD SAFETY & COMPLIANCE
Follow all federal, state, and local food safety regulations Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized kitchen environment Properly store, label, and handle food items Adhere to infection control procedures and PPE requirements Ensure special diets are prepared accurately as prescribed
TEAM & COMMUNICATION
Communicate effectively with the Food Service Director and team members Collaborate with dietary staff to maintain efficient kitchen operations Support a respectful, team-oriented work environment Provide excellent service to residents and their families
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Participate in training, drills, and emergency preparedness activities Assist with resident evacuation in emergency situations Report injuries, safety concerns, or policy violations immediately Maintain confidentiality of resident information (PHI) Comply with all facility policies and CMS guidelines
REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or GED preferred (or relevant experience) Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends and holidays Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
WORK SETTING
This position is based in a healthcare kitchen environment and requires standing for extended periods, lifting up to 25 pounds, and working in a fast-paced setting.
