The cook position offers the opportunity to utilize your culinary talents to enrich the lives of the women and children we serve. Working under the direction of our Nutrition Coordinator, cooks prepare and serve daily meals and snacks from scratch, cater special celebrations for our residents and staff and assist with many other interesting kitchen projects.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare and serve food and beverages with a focus on quality taste and presentation, and in accordance with health and food safety regulations Cook a variety of foods from scratch using a grill, oven, steamer, and other commercial kitchen equipment Assist in meal preparation by chopping, slicing, and dicing ingredients using proper knife skills. Ensure the kitchen is clean and organized, adhering to food safety regulations. Collaborate with other kitchen staff to ensure timely service during meal periods. Restock areas on serving line and maintain clean, orderly stockroom and refrigerators/freezers Provide exceptional customer service to all clients, staff and guests Receive and stock truck deliveries Assist with catering on and off-site events Follow all kitchen procedures to ensure successful health inspections Develop positive rapport with clients
Qualifications:
ServSafe Certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire Must be able to work a flexible schedule including holidays Ability to stand for 8+ hours Great communication skills and a team-player Knowledge of quality food preparation and presentation A passion for cooking and creating delicious meals that meet customer expectations. Coursework in International Cuisine, Garde or Banquet, Baking and Pastry and Meat Cutting helpful Knife skills, basic culinary skills and meal preparation skills essential Ability to be sensitive to and understanding of the unique needs of the client population served Must pass background check and drug screening ( answering "yes" to having a conviction(s) does not automatically disqualify you from employment. The nature of the offense, date of occurrence, and the job for which you are applying are also considered)
