Job Description

Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Line and Prep Cook to join our team part-time at Zaytoon Mediterranean Grill (ZMG). We are a small family-owned Mediterranean restaurant located in the heart of downtown Greensboro and have been a staple of the downtown lunch scene since 2007. We are a lunch only business and open from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM Monday-Friday. Speed and consistency in our orders is what we pride ourselves on here at ZMG. The majority of our customers work in the downtown offices and have 30 minutes to an hour for lunch each day, so we try to output our orders as fast as possible without compromising quality each day. This will be a part-time role with expected hours between 15-20/week. We already have two cooks who work the line, one at the bar preparing the orders and another on the grill. We need a third cook who can come in between 9:00 AM-10:00 AM, help prep, help during the lunch rush, then leave at 1:30-2:00 PM. Two cooks will wrap up and clean before closing each day and the cook released early each day will alternate. We have been growing at a steady pace of 25% per year, which has been good. A third cook on the line has been needed for a while in order to help the operation function smoother as things get busier. We also need a third cook incase emergencies or vacation requests arise. The ideal candidate for this role will have another cook job working dinner at another restaurant near by, has mornings and afternoons available until 3:00 PM, and is looking to fill that vacant time in the morning with another position for extra income. We cannot afford to have three cooks dependent on ZMG for hours. This role is not an entry-level role. The ideal candidate needs to have at least five to ten years of experience working in restaurants. We must have at least one reference we can contact at the other restaurant or other place of employment just to ensure that we are hiring a good, polite, and customer-service oriented worker. We are looking to pay $15-$20/hour which will be determined based on experience, education, and any certifications. That compensation can quickly go up as well, if we are pleased with the training and first few months. We are a small business and unfortunately don't have any medical benefits or 401K plans to offer, but you will get a free lunch, tips, raises for good performance, and an occasional bonus if business continues improving.
Job Requirements:
Five to ten years of experience working in restaurants as a line cook (please, no applicants without previous kitchen experience or looking to learn, this is not an entry level position) English is required and you must demonstrate the ability to read, interpret, and call out tickets when the order is ready, able to take orders on the cash register, phone calls, and interpret DoorDash orders. You must be familiar with working in a fast paced kitchen and be able to remain calm under pressure. You must be comfortable standing for 3-5 hours at a time, working in a semi-hot environment at times, and able to lift 50 lbs. You must have experience working on a flat top grill for 1-2 hours at a time on and off. We have an open kitchen layout that is customer facing, so you must not be loud when working on the line and refrain from using profanity. Knowledge of food handling practices and food safety regulations is essential. Serve-safe accreditation is preferred. Possess to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail. Strong teamwork skills and the ability to communicate effectively with other kitchen staff and customers. Familiarity with various cooking techniques and equipment is a plus.
Job Duties:
Co-lead the line during the lunch rush from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. Clean tables, sweep floors, take out trash, clean bathrooms, mop floors, and with dishes at the end of the day. Portion and package our packaged goods products when not busy. Prep for the day in the morning, including chopping vegetables and portioning ingredients for the line. Follow recipes and instructions from chefs to ensure consistency in food quality. Be open to learning and willing to understand how we prepare things here, even if you've done it somewhere else. Maintaining cleanliness and organization of the kitchen workspace, including proper storage of food items. Adhering to all food safety and sanitation guidelines to ensure a safe working environment. Helping with inventory management by monitoring stock levels and reporting shortages. Collaborating with other kitchen staff to ensure timely meal service. Supporting the cooking staff by performing additional tasks as needed.
