Big Cat on Brookside Raleigh, NC Job Details Part-time $21 - $25 an hour 17 hours ago Benefits Employee discount Paid sick time Qualifications Food production Food handling Cooking Kitchen grills Food safety Full Job Description Job Overview Join our talented culinary team as a Line Cook at our newly opened neighborhood restaurant located in East Mordecai. Big Cat opened about 2 months ago to a great reception from the community and area. We need one more part time cook to round out our already excellent team. This is a part time position which requires availability for a 2-3 shift, 20-25 hour a week part time schedule. Weekend availability is required . As a line cook at Big Cat, you are required to have a minimum of two years of experience cooking in a busy, ingredient-driven restaurant. We're looking for motivated individuals who thrive in fast-paced environments and are eager to learn about flavors and techniques from around the globe. Our scratch menu is structured as a casual tavern with impeccable attention to detail, intentional local sourcing and artistic presentation. We will prioritize experienced candidates but a great attitude and willingness to learn is valuable to us in our tight knit, positive culture staff. Big Cat is a collaborative project partnering several well respected and experienced operators. Chef Cheetie Kumar and Paul Siler are co-owners at Ajja, Chef Angela Salamanca and Marshall Davis are co-owners of several beloved local establishments including Mala Pata, and Justin Pasfield is a partner in, among others, Locals Seafood. Between them, they have garnered multiple James Beard nominations and Michelin Gourmand distinction. We are excited to create a community driven space with a small footprint market and eventually open for lunch and dinner with a morning market activation. Line Cooks will earn between $21-25/ hour including tips that are shared among the entire staff (service and kitchen). Tips are included in bi-weekly paychecks. Responsibilities Prep, stock, maintain and track mise-en-place for your station and rotate all products properly using the FIFO method. Read tickets / KDS and cook food to order while coordinating and communicating with others on the line for smooth, efficient and organized service. Follow recipes, protocol and procedures of our kitchen Cross training on two or more stations is extra valuable! Maintain a clean and sanitary work-station area during and after service, following all sanitation, health and safety guidelines as determined by the chef. Handle food with care, ensuring proper portioning, consistent seasoning, garnishing, and plating techniques. Cleanliness is key! Be engaged and able to communicate and articulate ideas for improvement in a mature, positive way Assist in prep during low volume hours Follow the opening and closing lists and work as a part of a team to ensure procedures are followed Support kitchen team members during busy service times, fostering a collaborative environment Hold yourself accountable for your work Be tolerant, respectful of coworkers and guests, and comply with company policies Contribute to executing takeout and private event orders as may be required by the chef Skills Proven experience in food preparation (preferably a minimum of 2 years), cooking, or restaurant settings with a focus on quality service and scratch preparation. Experience working in fine dining and high volume environments is highly desirable Strong knife skills and proficiency in various cooking techniques Willing to cross-train on multiple stations. Knowledge of food safety regulations and proper food handling procedures Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail Excellent teamwork skills with a positive attitude and strong communication abilities Be punctual, organized, clean, professional, and efficient without compromising quality. Be able to be on your feet for 8-10 hours, reach, bend, stoop and lift up to 40 pounds. Understand and adhere to safe food handling practices. References will be checked before hiring.
