Job Description

ATS Facility Services is seeking talented and motivated individuals to join our growing team. We have openings as Head Cook with Palmer Public Schools.

  • Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification or Licensure:
    American School Food Services Association Certification.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for successful performance of the tasks listed.
  • Good personal appearance and cleanliness.
  • Evidence of initiative, ingenuity, loyalty, and willingness to cooperate.
  • Demonstrated ability to assume responsibility for "main dish" preparation, baking or vegetable preparation.
  • Experience as a full-time employee in school food services or other quantity food production facility.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as are determined to be appropriate and acceptable.
Essential Functions:
  • Assist in serving of food in a efficient, safe, and pleasant manner.
  • Assume responsibility for seeing to it that during meal service periods the supply of foods offered is replenished regularly.
  • Assist in the daily clean-up of the kitchen and service areas.
  • Perform major cleaning of refrigerators and storerooms at regularly scheduled intervals as designated by the site manager.
  • Assume responsibility for storage labeling, and disposal of unused foods after recording.
  • Must be able to read and interpret instructions on recipes.
  • Prepare foods that are attractive, tasty, nutritious and safe by following safe food handling techniques and tasting, garnishing, and inspecting foods.
  • Adhere to the dress code established by the food service site manager.
  • Must be able to work on feet for at least eight hours daily and must be able to lift up to fifty pounds to carry short distances.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Food Service Site Manager or Supervisor of Food Service.
  • Keep equipment clean and working properly.
  • Works on production problems and determining solutions.
  • Assists with staff training in the cook's area.
  • Adjusts recipes to produce desired quantities.
  • Assists with cleaning at the end of each day.
  • Orders and accounts for commodities provided through the State Department.
  • Opens and closes kitchen and assumes other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Regular attendance is required. Hours may vary : 6am-2pm, 7am-2pm Monday-Friday, Summer will be Custodial work. Head Cook Employed during the school term only - Head Cook may have additional days Ten (10) sick leave days per year, cumulative to 45. Two (2) days personal leave, cumulative to 5 Bereavement Leave
  • Three (3) days professional leave Disability Insurance No paid holidays are granted for this position.
Custodian Employed on a 3-month basis Provided Employee Health Insurance and Long Term Disability Insurance Allowed two weeks (10 days) paid vacation accruing one day per month until completion of 6th month of employment, when unused balance is awarded, not to carry over/rollover Allowed two days Personal Leave, cumulative to five Allowed 10 days of sick leave per year, cumulative to 45 days Bereavement Leave
  • Paid holidays to include Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Monday following Easter, Memorial Day and the Fourth of July.
