Head Start Cook Blue Valley Community Action (BVCA) -
Seward County Head Start Full-Time:
36 hr work week | Non-Exempt | Off over the summer Anticipated start date: July 27, 2026 Blue Valley Community Action is seeking a dedicated and dependable Cook to support our Head Start program by preparing nutritious meals and creating a safe, welcoming kitchen environment for children and families. This role is essential in supporting children's health, development, and school readiness by ensuring meals meet USDA guidelines and Head Start Performance Standards, while also promoting positive relationships and a family-centered environment. What You'll Do Prepare and serve meals in accordance with USDA meal patterns and Head Start standards Follow menus and recipes provided by the Nutrition Coordinator, including accommodations for allergies and special needs Purchase groceries and maintain appropriate inventory levels Ensure food is prepared, transported, and served safely with proper temperature control Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized kitchen and food service area Assist classroom staff in providing developmentally appropriate nutrition experiences Build positive, respectful relationships with children, families, and staff Maintain accurate records, documentation, and required reports Follow all safety, sanitation, and regulatory requirements Participate in team meetings, trainings, and ongoing professional development Qualifications High school diploma or GED required Valid driver's license and access to an insured vehicle Ability to pass required background and child abuse registry checks Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certification and required health screenings Basic computer skills and ability to maintain records Strong communication and teamwork skills Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism Preferred Qualifications At least 6 months of cooking experience Experience in early childhood or Head Start settings Knowledge of nutrition standards and food safety practices Understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate practices Benefits Medical, Dental, Vision, Basic Life & AD&D, Voluntary Life, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, Accident/Cancer/Hospital Confinement Indemnity Plans, Employee Assistance Program, 403 (b) Retirement Plan, Paid Time Off.
