Cook Job Description This role prepares, cooks, portions, and presents a wide variety of hot and cold food items for multiple meal periods, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special or catered events. You will cook to order, often within short preparation times, while consistently delivering high-quality food and attentive service to guests, customers, and patient families. Responsibilities Accurately and efficiently prepare, portion, cook, and present a variety of hot and cold food items for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special or catered events. Prepare food to order, including items that require short preparation times, in a manner similar to a short-order cook. Operate an a la carte service area and grill station, as needed, to prepare and serve customer orders. Read food orders or receive verbal instructions and prepare and cook food according to those directions. Follow basic recipes and product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving, and serving soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other food items. Provide consistently high-quality service to customers, including guests, patients, and patient families in the café and kitchen. Take customer orders, prepare food to specification, and ensure timely and accurate delivery of meals. Interact courteously and professionally with customers and patient families, responding to questions and requests. Work with patient food preparation in the kitchen, ensuring meals meet specified standards and instructions. Handle foodservice supplies and materials in a safe, organized, and efficient manner. Comply with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures at all times. Participate in regular safety meetings, safety training sessions, and hazard assessments. Apply all applicable OSHA and related local safety requirements to daily work activities. Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized work area in accordance with federal, state, and corporate standards, guidelines, and regulations. Support teammates and collaborate with other foodservice staff to ensure smooth and efficient kitchen and café operations. Essential Skills Proven experience working as a cook, chef, prep cook, or line cook in a foodservice environment. Strong food preparation and cooking skills, including short-order cooking. Ability to follow recipes and product directions accurately for a variety of food items. Experience with food production in a high-volume or institutional setting. Customer service skills, including the ability to interact professionally with customers and patient families. Ability to take and process customer orders and prepare food to order. Basic cashier skills and comfort working in a café or a la carte service environment. Understanding of and adherence to food safety, sanitation, and quality standards. Ability to comply with OSHA and local safety requirements and follow safety and risk management policies. Willingness to participate in safety meetings, safety training, and hazard assessments. Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled. Additional Skills & Qualifications Background in multiple kitchen roles such as cook, chef, prep cook, and line cook. Experience working with patient meal services in a healthcare or similar environment. Comfort operating a grill station and working in an a la carte setting. Strong communication skills for interacting with diverse customers and colleagues. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Work Environment This position is based primarily in an indoor hospital setting featuring a modern, state-of-the-art design and open spaces, with occasional participation in outside activities and events. The role follows an open shift schedule, with work hours that may fall between 5:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, along with rotating weekends and the potential for evenings, holidays, and extended hours as business needs require. You will work in a professional foodservice environment that includes a kitchen, café, and grill or a la carte stations, following established safety, sanitation, and operational procedures. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Lancaster, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $20.00/hr.
