DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position supports safe and sanitary food preparation by assisting with daily cooking tasks and kitchen operations. It ensures that meals are prepared properly and that food areas remain clean and well organized. As a Cook 1, you will perform the following duties:
Food Preparation:
Prepare cooked meats, vegetables, soups, casseroles, sauces, and baked items for regular and therapeutic diets
Equipment Operation:
Use kitchen equipment such as ovens, fryers, kettles, mixers, and grills, and report malfunctions to supervisors
Sanitation Duties:
Clean and sanitize utensils, work areas, floors, and equipment used in food preparation and meal service
Recipe Management:
Weigh, measure, package, and label ingredients, and assist in developing and testing new recipes
Inventory Control:
Record food and supply usage, prepare requisitions, and assist with receiving and inspecting deliveries
Staff Coordination:
Assign, review, and assist with routine food production tasks, and help train new cooks Interested in learning more? Additional details regarding this position can be found in the position description.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment (8.0 hours per day; 40 hours per week) Work hours are 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM (2nd shift); rotating days, weekends, and holidays; with a 30-minute lunch.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
Desirable Preparation For Work:
Experience in cooking or quantity food preparation; or Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training.
Additional Requirement:
You must be able to perform essential job functions. Preferred Qualifications (not required): Education in foods, nutrition, dietetics, food service, institutional management or a related field Previous formal baking training Current ServSafe certification or other licenses and safety certifications Experience as a baker in a large volume preparation operation Experience using and converting standardized recipes Experience mixing, proofing, and finishing yeast raised products in a large scale food service operation Experience baking and decorating cakes and pastries Experience in food service operations for geriatric and/or physically ill patient/resident populations
