The Dietary Cook plays a vital role in providing nutritious, appetizing meals that support the health and well-being of our residents while maintaining compliance with all state and federal regulations. The ideal candidate is team-oriented, organized, and committed to providing excellent service to our residents Position Summary The Dietary Cook is responsible for preparing and serving meals according to approved menus, therapeutic diets, and physician orders while maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prepare and cook meals according to planned menus and standardized recipes. Ensure all therapeutic and modified diets are prepared accurately. Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines at all times. Prepare food in appropriate quantities to meet resident needs and minimize waste. Monitor food temperatures and maintain required logs. Serve meals in a timely and professional manner. Assist with meal tray assembly and delivery as needed. Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, work areas, and food preparation surfaces. Store food properly and rotate inventory using FIFO (First In, First Out) principles. Report equipment malfunctions, food shortages, and safety concerns to the Dietary Manager. Assist with receiving and storing food and supplies. Maintain compliance with Texas Health and Human Services (HHSC), CMS, OSHA, and facility policies. Promote resident satisfaction by responding appropriately to special requests and dietary needs. Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred. Previous cooking experience in a healthcare, nursing home, hospital, restaurant, or institutional setting preferred. Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices. Ability to read and follow recipes and production sheets. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Must be dependable and maintain regular attendance. Food Handler's Permit or ability to obtain within required timeframe. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive motions. Ability to work in hot and cold kitchen environments.
