We're looking for a friendly, reliable, kitchen-informed person to support meal preparation, working as part of a team, helping prepare and serve nutritious meals to children and seniors. Position Summary As part of the kitchen crew, you will play a critical role in assisting a professional kitchen team in preparing day-to-day meals for the Kids Cafe Program. You will directly impact the wellbeing of children and seniors participating in all the programs we serve. This is an entry level position for seasonal part time work. The candidate will learn and demonstrate the ability to embrace the High Plains Food Bank's commitment to treat all people with equity and respect while pursuing our mission. At times other duties may be assigned and must be completed as needed by High Plains Food Bank.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Completes & handles defined food preparation, cleaning, service duties according to proper procedures, using various dietary equipment and supplies, as assigned. Prepares, at times serves meals; ensures appropriate portioned servings according to portion control standards. Participating in food service education and training Assist kitchen teams with food preparation and food packaging Cleans equipment and work areas as trained and assigned by kitchen manager Works directly with students and elderly throughout the day
Typical Shifts:
Tuesday-Friday 9am - 2pm and Saturday 730am-12:30pm
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Friendly; enjoy working with diverse people; must be able to work with a team and individually. Must be flexible with changes, updates, and accept all other duties as assigned. Must have reliable transportation with a valid state identification or driver's license. General knowledge of quantity food preparation and portioned serving required. Ability to communicate and work effectively with various levels of staff, and the public. Possesses adequate strength and endurance to meet the strenuous physical demands of preparing and carrying quantity foods up to 50 lbs. Possesses coordination and dexterity required to prepare food and operate dietary equipment. Able to understand and follow procedures. Ability to utilize computers, smartphones, and other electronic devices for tasks such as timekeeping, and documentation. Must possess or obtain a Texas Food Handler's License within 2 weeks of accepting position Adheres to policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook/Manual. Acts as a role model within and outside the food bank. Perform duties as workload necessitates. Maintains a positive and professional appearance. Communicate regularly with the Kitchen Manager about department issues/challenges and successes/accomplishments. Demonstrates flexible and efficient time management and ability to prioritize workload. Consistently reports to work on time prepared to perform duties of the position. Meets department productivity standards/goal. Must be available for shifts assigned including early mornings, weekends and some holidays, as required, ability to work without continued supervision. Having reliable telephone service and must be able to return telephone calls in a timely manner. Interact with staff, volunteers, students, visitors, and the public in a professional and friendly and respectful manner Successfully pass all compliance related materials required educational materials

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. This work is performed primarily in kitchen setting for extended periods. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit, crouch, and lift or move up to 50 pounds.
PREFERED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School/GED degree or equivalent or currently enrolled in High School.
