In this role, you will play a vital part in preparing high-quality meals, assisting with weekly specials and menu execution, and ensuring food safety and sanitation standards are consistently upheld. Located inside the historic George Saegmuller Mansion — one of the oldest standing homes in Virginia — the Council Home Bar serves members, families, and guests through weekly bar service, community gatherings, themed events, banquets, and special member functions in a welcoming and historic atmosphere. We are looking for someone who takes pride in quality food service, works well in a fast-paced environment, and contributes positively to a team-oriented culture. Responsibilities Prepare and cook menu items in accordance with established recipes and quality standards Assist with menu planning, weekly specials, and food preparation for bar service and events Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen, prep areas, coolers, storage spaces, utensils, and equipment Ensure proper food handling, sanitation, and safety procedures are followed at all times Monitor inventory levels and communicate supply needs to management Properly label, store, and rotate food products Assist with opening and closing kitchen duties Coordinate with bartenders, event staff, and management during service Maintain consistency, presentation, and timely ticket execution during busy service periods Support occasional specialty menus, membership events, banquets, and community functions Contribute to a safe, clean, and team-oriented work environment Qualifications Prior cooking or kitchen experience required Experience with menu planning, food preparation, cooking, or restaurant food service preferred Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment Strong communication and teamwork skills Dependable, punctual, and self-motivated Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 pounds Evening and weekend availability required What We Offer Health Insurance, including Dental & Vision 401(k) Retirement Plan Growth opportunities within hospitality and event leadership operations, including potential pay grade and benefit increases Supportive and team-oriented work environment Opportunity to work community events and private functions Historic and family-oriented workplace atmosphere The Historic Council Home is proud to serve the local community while fostering a welcoming environment for members, families, and guests alike.
