Job Description

WHO ARE WE?
Cook's Burger Bar is here to shake up the Williamsburg restaurant scene with a passion for old school vibes and new school flavor. We are a wall-to-wall tribute to nostalgia: wood paneling accented by classic 50's diner colors like teal, mustard, and brick red; stained glass pendants; tile floors studded with atomic starbursts; chrome-rimmed diner tables; and vintage Breweriana. The diner-style menu with a flattop focus will at once utilize curated ingredients and reject pretention. A luncheonette-style view of the kitchen makes burgers and fries the star dish. The menu also features mid-century snacks and small plates (e.g. tinned fish, pickled eggs, house-made bar mixes, chicken liver pâté) as well as "Fork & Knife" dishes like "Grandma Style Meatloaf." The hallmark of the bar program is an extensive menu of Ready to Drink (RTD) canned beverages: from beer, wine, and cocktails to niche N/A selections. Draft options include Cook's Lite and Cook's Dark lagers, which Precarious Beer Project has brewed specifically for the bar, alongside four rotating draft cocktails.
POSITION OVERVIEW
As a line cook Cook's Burger Bar, you will be responsible for the cornerstone of our operation, OUR FOOD! The Line Cook position is such a critical position in our operation due to their responsibility in executing our food with a high level of precision and consistency, regardless of business volumes! You will be responsible for your station set up, forecasting daily mise en place levels and executing a la carte orders. You will follow proper food production procedures as dictated by the Executive Chef and BOH Leads. Accurate recipe production, portion control, waste management and most importantly the tasting of our food is critical to our success! You will be directly responsible for growing the legacy of Cook's Burger Bar & Against The Grain Restaurants by delivering high quality food to our guests' time and time again!
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Promote, work and act in a manner consistent with the mission of the Cook's Burger Bar & Against The Grain Restaurants.
  • Arrive to work on time and ready work.
  • Maintain a positive, upbeat attitude at all times regardless of business volume.
  • Cook ala carte dishes to order according to procedures provided by executive chef and BOH Leads.
  • Able to consistently execute basic and advanced cooking procedures (grilling, sautéing, baking, frying, knife skills, hot and cold sauce preparations, stocks, etc.
  • Taste all food prior to service to the guest!
  • Accurately forecast production levels according to business volumes while also maintaining a high level of quality.
  • Follow proper food handling guidelines regarding sanitation and safety. This includes proper cooling procedures, storage procedures, FIFO, cleaning chemical use and storage, etc.
  • Maintain a surgically clean and organized work station at all times.
  • Monitor equipment temperatures, maintenance and upkeep and report any deficiencies to the Executive Chef or ownership.
  • Clean floors throughout the day, constantly monitoring all work areas for cleanliness
  • Complete daily cleaning tasks lists as dictated by management.
  • Follow all company SOP's at all times.
  • Assist all fellow employees in their duties to maintain a high level of service at all times, regardless of station.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience as a line cook at a high-volume restaurant that was focused on chef driven menus.
  • Possess an energetic, enthusiastic, positive and generally upbeat personality with guests and co-workers.
  • Has a proven work history of being reliable and punctual.
  • Passionate about the craft of cooking and working with amazing ingredients.
  • Knowledge of basic cooking procedures and knife handling skills.
  • Ability to multitask and display a high level of endurance when restaurant is busy!
  • Ability to adhere to strict directives and instructions from Executive Chef and Sous Chef during busy times.
  • Ability to maintain a calm and collected demeanor during times of stress.
  • An obsessive dedication to cleaning and sanitation practices.
  • Works with Integrity and honesty and understands the importance of teamwork in a kitchen
  • A passion for creating exceptional guest experiences by delivering genuine hospitality.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Completed a 2-year associate degree in culinary arts or equivalent from an accredited culinary institute.
  • Driven to grow with an energetic, passionate and progressive restaurant group.
  • Possess excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills and possess the ability to interact with guests daily Must be 18 years or older with a valid U.
S. driver's license and the legal ability to work in the United States.
Pay:
$15.00 - $16.00 per hour
