Job Description

Evening Cook - Summer The Firs Camps & Retreats Bellingham, WA Job Details Full-time $20 - $24 an hour 8 hours ago Benefits Paid sick time Qualifications Food handling Food hygiene Meal preparation Food preparation Knife skills Full Job Description If you want your culinary skills to mean something more this summer, The Firs and Camp Firwood is looking for an Evening Cook to join our kitchen team for this summer. About The Firs Since 1921, The Firs has been spreading the joyous news of Jesus Christ and creating memories that last a lifetime. Nestled in the awe-inspiring natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, our mission is simple: for people to encounter Jesus and experience the love of God. Food plays a key role in that mission — setting the table, literally and figuratively, for something meaningful to happen. About the Role Food is central to everything we do at Camp Firwood. Each evening, our kitchen serves buffet dinner for over 350 campers and staff, and the meal you put on the table is often where the best moments of a camper's day begin. As Evening Cook, you'll be the lead on dinner service — preparing from-scratch meals, managing a high-output commercial kitchen environment, and helping create a warm, welcoming atmosphere at the close of each camp day. This is a part-time to full-time role, approximately 25-35 hours per week, with a consistent evening shift schedule. Your Responsibilities Prepare from-scratch dinners with attention to flavor, presentation, and consistency Lead or assist with dinner buffet service for 350+ campers and staff Operate commercial kitchen equipment safely and uphold food safety and sanitation standards Accurately handle dietary restrictions and individualized meal requests Coordinate with the broader kitchen team on daily prep, cleanup, and kitchen readiness What We're Looking For A personal faith in Jesus Christ and a heart for serving others through your work Prior experience in a commercial kitchen is preferred; genuine enthusiasm for food and learning is equally valued Basic knife skills and comfort working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment Valid Food Handlers Permit Physical stamina — extended standing and lifting up to 50 lbs required Reliable evening availability, Monday through Friday, mid-June through end of August All staff must pass a background check; The Firs maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding harassment or abuse Season Details Mid-June through end of August 2026 We'd love to hear from you if you're ready to bring your skills to a place where the work genuinely matters.
