Job Description
Summary:
A Cook prepares food according to recipes, maintains a clean and sanitized workstation, and managing inventory at levels to support sales. Key duties involve prepping ingredients, cooking various foods, ensuring food presentation, and adhering to health and safety standards. The position often requires teamwork and that ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
Prepare ingredients
measure, chop, and prepare ingredients, including meat and vegetables, according to recipes per Kitchen Procedure Manual (KPM).
Cook and Plate food
cook food using various methods (baking, grilling, frying, etc.) and arrange dishes for appealing presentation, per KPM.
Maintain a clean workspace
Clean and sanitize cooking areas, equipment and utensils throughout the shift.
Follow safety standards
Adhere to all health, safety and sanitation guidelines, including proper food handling and storage.
Manage inventory
Monitor stock levels, receive and rotate stock, and inform manager when supplies are low.
Monitor quality
Check the quality and freshness of ingredients, prepared products and maintain food temperature logs.
Collaborate with teams
Work with other cooks and front-of-house staff to ensure timely and accurate order completion.
Requirements:
Experience
previous experience in a kitchen environment is preferred.
Skills
Strong organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure are a must. Manual dexterity and the ability to follow recipes are also important.
Physical stamina
ability to stand for long periods and handle physical tasks associated with cooking.
Certifications
a food handler's card certification is required.
Education:
A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
