We attend simply and directly to the spiritual and other basic human needs, especially those of the poor and disenfranchised, promoting justice for all. Capuchin Soup Kitchen The Capuchin Soup Kitchen, a ministry of the Province of St. Joseph of the Capuchin Order located in Detroit, MI, serves individuals experiencing poverty and hunger by providing nutritious meals and supportive services. Our many programs include two meal sites (Conner and Meldrum), a Services Center, Earthworks Urban Farm, the Rosa Parks Children's and Youth Program, On the Rise Bakery and Café, and Jefferson House—a residential treatment program for men recovering from substance use disorders. Position Overview We are seeking a full-time Kitchen Maintenance team member to join our mission at the Capuchin Soup Kitchen. Under the direction of the Kitchen Manager, the Kitchen Maintenance team member supports the day to day operations of our kitchen by ensuring cleanliness and upkeep across all kitchen areas, dining room, bathrooms and surrounding grounds. The position contributes to creating a welcoming and hospitable environment for both guests and volunteers, helping to advance the mission of the kitchen. Position Hours Monday - Friday 7:00AM - 3:00PM Essential Duties and Responsibilities Demonstrate, exemplify and support the Capuchin Charism and Provincial Mission, Vision and Values throughout all professional responsibilities and activities. Wash and store dishes, glassware, flatware, pots and pans using dishwashers or by hand. Clean tables in the dining area. Maintain kitchen work areas, equipment, utensils in clean and orderly fashion. Store clean dishes, utensils and cooking equipment in storage areas. Clean and supply bathrooms. Sweep or scrub floors. Monitor equipment used for repairs and report to management as needed. Receive and store supplies reporting to management when supplies run low. Sort and remove trash and recycling, placing it in designated areas. Stock supplies as needed or directed. Clean up parking lot and surrounding area when needed. Comply with Province and ministry policies, procedures, guidelines and standards. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Effective communication, problem solving, interpersonal and organizational skills. Effective Microsoft Office skills. Ability to bend, lift and carry at least 50 pounds with assistance. Able to maintain confidentiality, travel locally, and be welcoming and professional. Able to work a flexible schedule including holidays and weekends.
