Job Description

About us: Uhuru Foods & Pies is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Black Star Industries that is an economic self-reliance program of the Uhuru Movement with the mission to reclaim land, food production and food distribution into the hands of African people worldwide.
Definition:
Under the supervision of the Uhuru Bakery Manager, the Prep Cook supports daily kitchen operations by preparing ingredients, maintaining cleanliness, and assisting the Lead Cook to ensure food is ready for service on time. This role requires organization, attention to detail, and the ability to follow recipes and directions accurately.
Essential Functions :
Food Preparation Wash, cut, measure, and prepare ingredients according to recipes. Follow instructions from the Head Cook accurately and efficiently. Assist with basic cooking and baking tasks as needed. Help with plating and assembling menu items when required. Kitchen Support Maintain clean and organized prep stations. Ensure tools, equipment, and work areas are sanitized and properly stored. Restock and label ingredients and supplies during service. Wash dishes for kitchen, bakery & cafe Assist with receiving and storing deliveries using proper food safety standards. Food Safety & Sanitation Follow all food safety guidelines and sanitation procedures. Label, date, and store food properly (FIFO method). Maintain a valid ServSafe Certification.

Passionate about cooking and working in a cooperative kitchen environment Leads and contributes to positive, safe and effective work environment of all volunteers Delegates responsibilities clearly and in an organized manner Works collaboratively, team player Has the ability to lead and motivate others Able to prioritize tasks and manage time well under pressure Qualifications ServSafe Certification (required). Basic kitchen or food prep experience preferred. Ability to follow recipes and directions carefully. Strong time management and organizational skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment. Team-oriented with good communication skills.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-temperature environment.
Pay:
$16.00 - $18.00 per hour
