Job Description
Key Responsibilities Cleaning and Sanitizing :
Load, operate, and unload commercial dishwashing machines; hand-wash items that can't go through the machine; scrub pots, pans, and kitchen tools to remove food residue.Kitchen Support :
Assist cooks and prep staff by clearing dirty dishes from service areas, wiping down surfaces, sweeping floors, and taking out trash to keep the kitchen clean and organized.Inventory and Maintenance :
Restock clean dishes and silverware; monitor and report equipment malfunctions (e.g., broken dishwashers); ensure proper use of cleaning chemicals and supplies.Hygiene Compliance :
Follow health and safety regulations, including proper glove usage, sanitizing protocols, and food safety standards (e.g., NSF or local health codes).Team Collaboration :
Work closely with kitchen staff during peak hours, such as dinner rushes, to maintain workflow; may help with basic food prep or bussing tables in smaller operations.Required Skills and Qualifications Physical Abilities :
Ability to stand for long shifts (6-8 hours), lift heavy items (up to 50 lbs), and work in steamy, slippery conditions; good manual dexterity for handling hot items.Basic Knowledge :
Understanding of cleaning techniques and sanitation; familiarity with commercial kitchen equipment is a plus but often trained on the job.Soft Skills :
Reliability, speed, teamwork, and a strong work ethic; ability to handle repetitive tasks without losing focus.Education and Experience :
No formal education required; high school diploma or equivalent preferred. Entry-level role, but prior experience in food service is advantageous. Work Environment and Schedule Fast-paced, high-pressure settings with exposure to heat, water, chemicals, and noise.
