The City of Galt is currently accepting applications to fill two Recreation Worker II vacancies.- Please note: this recruitment may close before the advertised date if we receive a sufficient number of qualified applications.
Base Pay:
Effective July 1, 2026- $18.99

ASSIGNMENT AND ELIGIBILITY
): Longevity Pay- beginning at 10 years of service, 5%; 15 years of service, 7.5%.Bilingual Pay
- $100 per month.
- Employees who waive the City's medical coverage shall receive $200 per month for employee only, $350 per month for employee plus one, and $500 per month for family. Incentives
- up to 2.5%
- 10%On Call Pay
- Two hours for every normal workday and four hours for every holiday weekend.
- Two hours for each standby shift of 8 hours or less.
BENEFITS
Home Buying Program- $25,000 interest-free loan to assist with the purchase of a home in Galt city limits.
- Up to $4,000 per fiscal year.
- 14 holidays; thirteen (13) paid holidays and one (1) floating holiday.
Vacation Leave
- 80 hours per year; after 4 years
- 120 hours; after 10 years
- 160 hours; after 15 years
- 200 hours, and after 22 years
- 240 hours.
- Those with 4+ years of prior public agency experience may request to accrue at a rate of 120 hours.
- Cash out up to forty (40) hours of vacation per year.
- 8 hours per month.
Health Insurance
- City pays a generous portion of the CalPERS medical premium, including 100% for Employee +One for 5 of the health plans.
Life Insurance
- City paid a $50,000 policy and $1,500 policy for dependents.
- City-paid benefit is up to 60% of base salary.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from the Recreation Supervisor and/or Recreation Coordinator. The level II of this classification may exercise general supervision of lower-level staff and/or volunteers.EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Recreation:
Conducts or assists in the organization of community recreation programs, sports, aquatic activities and special events. Depending on assignment, typical duties include, but are not limited to: assist in the operations of a community program and/or gymnasium facility; provide support services to department staff; interact and communicate with the public; promote a safe environment for both staff and patrons; perform a variety of office and computer tasks and other related duties as assigned. Program areas include, but are not limited to sports, crafts, special events, aquatics, lifeguarding, swim instruction, day camps, pre-school, after school and senior program, concession cashiering and cleaning of facilities. The level II of this classification is distinguished by increased level of responsibility by being assigned to the ASES and SOAR Program, to the lifeguard position, or responsible for the direction of a small work crew. Depending on assignment, may operate a standard vehicle to travel to multiple locations in order to perform assigned tasks; transporting equipment as needed, and performing assigned tasks at each worksite.SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Full-time incumbents must be at least eighteen (18) years old at the time of hire.Some experience in recreation work or directing group activities is highly desirable.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT AND CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT
City of Galt is authorized and required by the state of California to access Local, State, and/or Federal criminal history as part of the testing process. This process can be completed by initial fingerprinting and/or a full background investigation pursuant to Penal Code §11105(b) (10), §11105.3, §13300(b) (10); Education Code §10911.5; Public Resources Code §5164) and in compliance with the City of Galt's Fingerprinting Policy and Procedure. As a future employee or volunteer, you are required to be fingerprinted and processed through the Department of Justice and cleared before you can start. All information obtained will be kept in strict confidentiality. Must have a current and valid TB Test pursuant to Public Resources Code 5163. Must pass a medical drug screen and/or physical. Must possess a valid Class C California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Depending on assignment, must possess strength, stamina and mobility to work indoors in an office setting/recreational facility or to perform required work out doors including: frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, climbing, and walking on uneven surfaces; lifting up to 40 pounds with occasional lifting up to 50 pounds; use of standard office equipment and/or recreation equipment including a computer and handheld devices; constant use of overall vision; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone and/or radio. May supervise children and be required to kneel, sit in low chairs, or sit on floor for prolonged periods. Must be willing to work out doors in all weather conditions with possible exposure to loud noise, traffic, and potentially hazardous conditions such as exposure to chemicals, fumes and other environmental substances.ENVIRONMENTAL
ELEMENTSEmployees may work in the field and are occasionally exposed to loud noise levels, cold and/or hot temperatures, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards. Incumbents may be exposed to blood and body fluids rendering First Aid and CPR are required to wear appropriate attire for the recreation activity to which they are assigned. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.WORKING CONDITIONS
Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen, and background investigation, including fingerprinting. May be required to work a varied schedule of hours, which may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays at a variety of City facilities. Work may be occasionally performed indoors.
