10-19 SUMMARY
OF POSITION/ RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for assisting peers with disabilities and/or medical conditions as they acclimate, navigate, and experience college life at Bismarck State College (BSC). Promote the development of self-reliance, self-determination, and self-advocacy skills. Activities may include in-class academic support, homework and study sessions, social events, recreational opportunities, weekly planning, and/or volunteer service-learning activities.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Maintain scheduled hours. Assist peers to help foster a successful transition to the college environment. Plan and enjoy activities with peers. Activities will vary based on the needs of the peer. Attend mentor training and meetings. Complete Peer Mentor Feedback Forms after scheduled activities with a student peer.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Current student at BSC Strong interpersonal skills Time management and organizational skills Willingness to participate in BSC campus events and community events Academic and study skills if assigned to assist a peer with in-class or academic supports Criminal history record check
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0 Experience working with people who have diverse needs Experience serving as a peer mentor in an academic setting
