Job Description

Onstage - Kids 'N Dance 'N Theater Arts is a well-established, woman-owned and managed arts organization serving Oakland families for over 24 years. We are committed to providing accessible, supportive, and high-quality instruction in dance, musical theater, aerial arts, and after-school enrichment.
Our programs include:
  • A non-competitive, developmentally appropriate dance and aerial arts program
  • A rigorous, musical theater program, especially for older youth and adult casts
  • A thriving after-school program We are seeking a kid-friendly, highly capable, and organized individual who enjoys working in a dynamic arts environment.
Directing youth musical theater productions is one primary responsibility. It is important you genuinely enjoy kids and will happily jump in as an after school staff person and a camp activity leader. This role is part of a close-knit, three-person management team. There is shared leadership across distinct areas of responsibility, and meaningful room for growth. This position is ideal for someone with theater arts experience who is excited to be involved in all aspects of arts education - including production support, administration, customer relations and student support. Due to the scheduling demands of performances, rehearsals, and programs, it is not well suited for someone pursuing outside acting or directing work.

  • PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
    Youth Musical Theater Director
  • Direct & choreograph casts of no more than 12-15 students ages 4-8, 1st-5th graders or older
  • Lead 5-7 casts that rehearse once a week
  • Pull costumes and sets for your own and other productions (with support) Stage Management & Production
  • Work backstage for weekend performances (approximately ⅔ of school-year weekends, summer weekends off)
  • Set up and break down all shows, including risers (requires physical labor)
  • Possibly run lights/sound board (training provided)
  • Pull, organize, and return costumes and props
  • Assist other directors during rehearsals Camp and After-School Camp Support Staff
  • Ability to pick up after school student from schools for our after school program
  • Supervise students in the after school program 1-2 afternoons and week and as a sub
  • Lead group activities in camps
  • Transport and supervise students on field trips _______________________________________
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Staff front office reception and assist with student enrollment
  • Set up classes and manage data in the POS system
  • Create and send marketing email blasts
  • Scheduling (classes, rehearsals, staff)
  • Video editing for marketing and program needs
  • Supporting general facility maintenance _______________________________________ Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Detail-oriented with a strong memory and follow-through
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Warm, professional interpersonal skills for working with staff, students, and families
  • Teaching experience with excellent class management skills
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be comfortable driving students in company vans
  • Physical skills required: must be able to lift 25 lbs required for setting up risers and moving props/scenery
