Job Description
This is a non-exempt position, which is professional recreation work assisting in the planning, organizing and implementing recreation activities and special events within the Parks and Recreation Department. An employee in this position also assists with seeking sponsorships for events and assists outside groups with events held at City facilities. The employee works within departmental policies and procedures, however exercises independent judgment in the application of specialized knowledge of community recreation programming. Assist with the direction of the maintenance, office staff, facility attendants and instructors assigned to the facility/event. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Superintendent of Events who reviews work through observation and personal conferences for attainment of desired program results. Employees are hired as AT WILL employees that serve at the pleasure of the City and may be terminated at any time with or without cause. Assists in the planning, developing and implementing recreational activities and special events. Assists in the direction of maintenance, office staff, facility attendants and instructors assigned to the facility/event. Collects fees and charges for on-going recreation programs, classes and special events. Executes purchase orders authorized by the department director. Assists with the publicity of all City-wide special events. Oversee coordinating prizes and sponsorship of events. Assists with the inventory, check out, upkeep and repair of facility and event equipment. Performs any assigned duty before, during and after a declared emergency. Works with various City organizations and outside vendors with events held on City property. Ensures compliance with City Code and procurement policies and procedures by reviewing and monitoring purchases conducted by any designee, department, or official. This position does not have final procurement authority. Performs other related duties as required and as directed. Thorough knowledge of principles, practices, procedures and techniques of recreational activities and special events. Knowledge of multi-disciplined recreation activities, including individual and group activities. Knowledge of proper telephone etiquette and procedures with the ability to provide information to the public via telephone and in person. Ability to effectively supervise and direct the activities of subordinates in a manner conducive to full performance and high moral. Ability to demonstrate good public relation skills with visitors and participants. Ability to work a flexible work schedule including nights, weekends and holidays to accommodate the facility's needs and assist in special events during the year. Ability to supervise and interact with children in various programs offered by the City in a safe and professional manner. Ability to maintain complex records and prepare accurate reports. Ability to maintain facility and events for safety hazards and knowledge of proper use of safety practices. Ability to meet and deal courteously with the general public and establish and maintain an effective working relationship with civic groups, City officials and other municipal employees. Ability to operate a City vehicle and possess the required license. Ability to learn basic computer skills as well as Vermont Systems Rec Trac Registration System and other necessary certifications and training Ability to perform manual labor.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Associates degree in recreation/physical education or two (2) years experience in conducting organized recreational programs and recreation center operations. Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training may be considered. LiveScan Fingerprint Process Incumbents in this job class are required to undergo a Level 2 Background Screening as required by the State of Florida. The screening includes a photograph, fingerprint-based searches of criminal records nationally, and is performed using the electronic LiveScan process. This is a designated "Response" classification in the City's Emergency Operations Plan and will require the employee occupying this position to work for declared emergencies.
