(BL-RECS-IUBLA) Department Information The Office of Student Life is focused on building a strong foundation to ensure every student's Indiana University (IU) experience is positive, safe, healthy, and meaningful. Serving over 36,000 students, faculty, staff, and community members annually, we offer a variety programs across two multipurpose facilities, indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts, adventure spaces, and more. Job Summary The IU Outdoor Pool Assistant Manager serves as the supervisor on duty and helps promote an environment of safety, attentiveness, and excellent service. This role directly interacts with participants to provide high quality, relational service and exceptional experiences while also assisting with the leadership and supervision of lifeguards and swim instructors. This role offers a great opportunity to stay active, develop leadership and communication skills, and become part of a supportive campus community. Department-Specific Responsibilities Engages with participants to provide excellent customer service, respond to questions, and foster a welcoming environment. Identifies and communicates opportunities to enhance the overall participant experience. Provides on deck supervision of lifeguards, modeling professionalism, accountability, and adherence to established safety standards. Offers real time guidance, coaching, and support to ensure effective staff performance during assigned shifts. Collaborates with Member Services Leads to support daily operational needs, including shift coverage, staff communication, and participant flow. Assists with staffing logistics and provide coverage as needed to ensure continuity of operations. Assists with the onboarding, training, and mentoring of lifeguards. Contributes to staff development through ongoing feedback, coaching, and recognition efforts in coordination with professional staff. Enforces all safety policies and procedures, respond appropriately to emergencies, and support training related to unit specific safety responsibilities. Maintains all required certifications and pursues additional relevant certifications as needed. Assists with opening and closing procedures, basic equipment maintenance, and other day-to-day facility operations. Participates in staff and unit meetings and contributes to special projects or initiatives as assigned. QualificationsEDUCATION

Required Valid American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification or obtain certification within 30 days of hire SKILLS Required Must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire Effective communication skills with the ability to engage a diverse range of individuals Ability to effectively mentor and supervise a team of up to 25 people during a shift Excellent interpersonal skills and a customer-focused attitude Ability to collaborate and contribute to a team-oriented environment Service-oriented and dependable Willingness to take on new challenges Must have the knowledge and skill to prevent and respond to emergencies as outlined by the American Red Cross lifeguard curriculum and maintain adequate physical condition and fitness levels to respond when needed as a professional rescuer Working Conditions / Demands These positions require sitting and maintaining attention for long periods of time and frequently moving about the workspace. Positions require working outdoors in the sun and heat and the ability to move objects up to 50 pounds with assistance. Bloomington, Indiana Onsite work will take place at the following campus recreation facilities: IU Outdoor Pool (seasonal) Advertised Salary $19.10 per hour, summer rate Work Hours Minimum of 20 hours per week and may work up to 29 hours per week across all positions at Indiana University. Shifts may range from early morning openings to late evening closings, including weekends and holidays.
