We are currently seeking a Technical Theater Director for the 2026-2027 at an independent school in St. Louis, Missouri.
Responsibilities of Technical Theater Director:
Teach theater crew members proper equipment operation and set construction while ensuring safety. Teach upper school technical theater courses, including scenic, lighting, and sound design. Develop technical plans, timeline, and budgets for school productions. Oversee the installation of sets, lighting, and technical elements for performances and events. Collaborate with theatre and facilities staff to maintain spaces and equipment. Assist student training in backstage crew, sound and lighting board operators, and spotlight operators.Requirements of Technical Theater Director:
Bachelor's degree in Theater, Education, or related field required. Master's degree preferred. Previous experience with set design, sound, lighting, and/or stage management required. Previous K-12 theater experience strongly preferred. Experience in set design, construction, and/or stagecraft, with a strong understanding of design principles, materials, and techniques is required. Extensive knowledge of technical theater, theater equipment, and best practices. Ability to build sets for theater productions. Previous experience using AutoCAD or Vectorworks.
