Activity Support Manager Location:
Bahama, NC |Pay:
$16-$18/hour |Type:
Seasonal, full-time summerSchedule:
June 15, 2026 to August 7, 2026. Mon-Thu 8:45am-4:15pm; Fri 8:45am-4:30pm, with some evenings, a possible sleepover, a few hours on June 20, and 3 training days during the week of June 8.ABOUT CAMP RIVERLEA
Camp Riverlea is more than a summer job. For over 56 years, Riverlea has been a place where children, teens, and staff grow, belong, and build friendships that last far beyond camp. Tucked into 90 beautiful acres in Northern Durham County, North Carolina, Riverlea is known for its rich traditions, imaginative Hobbit-inspired spirit, and strong sense of community. Many staff leave with lifelong friendships, stronger leadership skills, and the kind of growth that stays with them long after summer ends.WHO THIS ROLE IS FOR
This is a leadership role for someone who can make good programs stronger and help young staff rise to the level camp needs. This person will also act as a lifeguard and fill in for activity counselors, as needed.WHY THIS IS A GEM-IN-THE-ROUGH OPPORTUNITY
Lead multiple activity departments rather than just one program area. Coach young staff and help turn good activities into great ones. Be part of the leadership team that shapes the daily camper experience.WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
Help lead activity staff orientation and training. Observe, evaluate, and coach specialty counselors weekly. Support lesson plans, supplies, and quality of programming across departments. Step in as an activity counselor to meet ratios when needed. Coordinate with camp leadership on camper behavior or safety issues.YOU WILL LIKELY THRIVE HERE IF
You can supervise peers without micromanaging them. You notice quality issues and know how to coach improvement. You are organized and can keep many moving parts straight. You are still willing to jump in hands-on when camp needs you.THIS ROLE IS PROBABLY NOT FOR YOU IF
You want a leadership title but not the responsibility of follow-through. You only like mentoring when people are already doing well. You dislike giving feedback or being accountable for standards. You are too rigid to adapt when camp needs change fast.REQUIREMENTS
Experience supervising or mentoring teen/young adult staff preferred. Background in youth programming, outdoor education, or a related field preferred. Lifeguarding certification, plus other activity certifications, such as Archery, Paddle sport (Camp Riverlea can provide these trainings, if needed). If getting the Lifeguard certification at camp, must be able to pass the Red Cross Lifeguarding Precourse Skills Assessment" (swim 300 yards continuously, tread water for 2 minutes, retrieve a 10 lb object at the bottom of a 8ft pool).Pay:
