It operates print and internet publications, e-commerce sites, marketplaces, develops aviation real estate, and provides financing solutions. We are seeking a talented and experienced Editor-in-Chief to join the Soundings Trade Only team. The ideal candidate will be based in or near Chattanooga, TN, and possess a deep understanding of the recreational marine industry from a business-to-business perspective — with the editorial instincts of a seasoned newsroom executive and the analytical rigor of a Wall Street analyst.
Responsibilities:
Set the editorial vision and strategic direction for Soundings Trade Only across print and digital platforms Write authoritative, opinion-driven features, columns, and analysis that challenge the marine industry's status quo and hold industry players accountable Lead, manage, and develop a team of editors, reporters, and contributors Build and maintain senior-level relationships across the recreational marine industry — with manufacturers, dealers, trade associations, financial institutions, and executives Oversee the editorial calendar, ensuring consistent coverage of industry news, trends, M&A activity, market data, and business strategy Apply a data-informed, analyst-level lens to marine industry reporting — connecting macroeconomic trends to dealer performance, manufacturer strategy, and market movement Collaborate cross-functionally with Firecrown's sales, marketing, and product teams to align editorial strategy with business goals Represent Soundings Trade Only at major marine industry events, trade shows, and conferences Drive audience growth and engagement across newsletter, digital, and print channels All other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Proven executive leadership experience in a B2B newsroom or trade media environment — consumer publishing backgrounds will not be considered Deep knowledge of and established executive-level relationships within the recreational marine or broader boating industry An analytical, business-first editorial mindset — the ability to read a balance sheet, interpret market data, and translate it into compelling industry journalism A track record of bold, opinion-driven writing that informs, provokes, and influences an industry audience Strong people leadership skills with experience managing editorial teams and freelance contributors Excellent communication and presentation skills; comfortable representing the brand publicly Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Business, or a related field; advanced degree a plus Firecrown offers a competitive salary and benefits package, along with the opportunity to make a significant impact on our business.
