Edgewood Country Club is seeking a passionate culinary professional who thrives on creating exceptional dining experiences, developing teams, and building a dining program that members are excited to enjoy and support. Position Summary The Lead Chef serves as the culinary leader of the Members' Restaurant at Edgewood Country Club. This position oversees all culinary operations within the member dining experience, including menu development, food quality, kitchen leadership, staff development, member satisfaction, and financial performance. Unlike traditional restaurant environments, this role offers the opportunity to build relationships with a consistent clientele, develop seasonal menus, showcase culinary creativity, mentor a talented team, and focus on delivering memorable dining experiences without many of the challenges associated with public restaurant operations. The Lead Chef serves as the primary culinary leader of the Members' Restaurant and works collaboratively with the Banquet Chef and culinary team to support major club events and special programming while maintaining ownership of the member dining experience. While the Club maintains a dedicated Purchaser responsible for ordering and inventory procurement, the Lead Chef is expected to actively manage the financial performance of the Members' Restaurant, partnering closely with the Purchaser to achieve food cost, quality, and operational objectives. As the lead salaried manager of the Members' Restaurant kitchen, this position is responsible for establishing culinary standards, developing team members, driving member satisfaction, and continuously elevating the dining experience at Edgewood Country Club. The Members' Restaurant serves as a cornerstone of the club experience, offering a dynamic dining program focused on quality ingredients, creative menu offerings, and exceptional hospitality. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Culinary Leadership Serve as the culinary leader of the Members' Restaurant operation. Lead by example through active participation in food production and service. Establish and maintain exceptional standards of food quality, consistency, presentation, and execution. Foster a culture of professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Develop and mentor culinary team members through coaching, training, and leadership. Maintain a positive and productive work environment focused on employee engagement and retention. Ensure all kitchen operations reflect the standards and expectations of Edgewood Country Club. Menu Development & Innovation Develop seasonal menus, features, specials, and culinary promotions. Create innovative dishes that balance member preferences with culinary creativity. Evaluate menu performance and make adjustments based on member feedback, trends, and operational goals. Collaborate with club leadership on dining initiatives and special events. Continuously seek opportunities to elevate the member dining experience. Create dining experiences that encourage member engagement and utilization of club facilities. Member Experience Build relationships with members and gain an understanding of their preferences and expectations. Engage with members when appropriate to gather feedback and enhance satisfaction. Ensure every meal reflects the standards and reputation of Edgewood Country Club. Respond proactively to member concerns and opportunities for improvement. Support a culture of hospitality that exceeds member expectations. Team Development & Leadership Recruit, train, schedule, and develop culinary team members. Establish clear performance expectations and accountability. Conduct ongoing coaching, training, and performance evaluations. Identify future leaders and support employee growth and advancement. Promote teamwork and collaboration throughout the culinary operation. Create a workplace culture focused on professionalism, development, and retention. Financial & Operational Management Manage food cost, labor cost, and operational expenses within the Members' Restaurant according to established budget goals. Work closely with the Club Purchaser to forecast product needs, maintain inventory levels, and ensure timely procurement of ingredients and supplies. Assist in menu pricing, recipe costing, and product utilization strategies to support departmental financial objectives. Monitor inventory usage and identify opportunities to reduce waste and improve efficiency. Maintain portion control and recipe consistency standards to support food cost management. Collaborate with the Purchaser on vendor relationships, product quality concerns, and sourcing opportunities. Analyze menu performance and make recommendations to improve profitability while maintaining member satisfaction and culinary excellence. Ensure responsible stewardship of departmental resources and operating budgets. Food Safety & Sanitation Ensure compliance with all health department regulations and food safety standards. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment. Oversee proper food storage, labeling, rotation, and sanitation procedures. Ensure all kitchen equipment is properly maintained and utilized. Promote a culture of safety and accountability throughout the culinary team. Collaboration & Club Support Partner with the Banquet Chef to support major club events and member functions. Collaborate with front-of-house leadership to ensure seamless dining experiences. Participate in culinary planning for club-wide events and initiatives. Support the overall success of Edgewood Country Club through teamwork and shared leadership. Work collaboratively with all departments to enhance the overall member experience. Qualifications Minimum of five (5) years of progressive culinary leadership experience. Previous experience as a Chef de Cuisine, Executive Sous Chef, Sous Chef, Kitchen Manager, Lead Chef, or similar leadership role. Strong background in upscale dining, private clubs, hotels, resorts, or chef-driven restaurant concepts. Proven success in menu development and culinary innovation. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Knowledge of labor management, recipe costing, food cost controls, and operational budgeting. Ability to develop and lead high-performing culinary teams. ServSafe Certification preferred. Passion for hospitality and creating exceptional dining experiences.
