ABOUT THIS POSITION
The Phoenix Convention Center and Venues host a diverse range of conventions, trade shows, meetings, and entertainment events in one of the premier convention facilities in the United States. We are committed to delivering the highest levels of customer service and guest experience in the industry. We enhance the economic vitality of the downtown area, the city of Phoenix, and the state of Arizona by supporting tourism-related industries, businesses, and cultural organizations. This position coordinates and directs the work of event support personnel including ushers, security guards, caterers, decorators, and temporary labor working on contract with the Phoenix Convention Center. Duties include ensuring that chairs, tables, stages and sound equipment are set-up to meet the client's needs and the facility's lease requirements; explaining policies and procedures to client tenants and the general public; and opening and securing the facility before and after events.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
Self-motivated, proactive, and detail oriented. Ability to accept responsibility, quickly make decisions, and work in a fast-paced, high-volume atmosphere. Knowledge of convention center operating policies and procedures.
SALARY Pay Range:
$20.51 - $35.08 per hour.
Hiring Range:
$20.51 - $22.61 per hour.
Pay Range Explanation:
Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification. Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.
Internal Only:
Please understand that this is pay grade 343. If selected, your salary offer will be based on the applicable promotion or demotion worksheet in accordance with the City Pay Ordinance. Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase. Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease. Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade. When there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit. BENEFITS
Part-time employees are eligible for earned paid sick time, city training, and free or discounted bus and light rail fares.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
One year of experience in the operation of a theater, convention center, or similar public assembly facility. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted. All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position. Working irregular hours, shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required. Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus: Degree or Certification in Tourism or Hospitality. Experience working with Convention Center or theaters. Operations policies. Crowd management experience. Experience with event management computer software systems. Experience supervising work teams. Experience in the professional live entertainment industry. Some college level course work, in a related field.
