Job Description

The Historic Sites Rental Staff position serves as the on-site representative and welcoming face of the Historic Sites section during rentals, special events, and public programs held at the Tucker House, Borden Building, and Mordecai Historic Park. These unique downtown Raleigh historic properties host a wide range of third-party events including weddings, memorial services, corporate gatherings, birthday celebrations, community events, and educational programs. Staff members play a key role in ensuring events run smoothly while helping preserve the integrity, atmosphere, and professionalism of some of Raleigh's most significant historic sites. Provide exceptional customer service by greeting rental clients, guests, vendors, and visitors in a professional and welcoming manner
  • Serve as the primary on-site contact during assigned rentals and special events
  • Monitor events to ensure compliance with facility policies, procedures, and rental agreements
  • Maintain awareness of event details, schedules, setup requirements, and client needs
  • Act as a steward of the historic site by helping protect historic structures, grounds, and furnishings
  • Demonstrate strong independent judgment and creative problem-solving skills when addressing unexpected situations or guest concerns
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and secure environment for visitors, staff, and vendors
  • Understand and follow emergency procedures and safety protocols as needed
  • Perform light housekeeping duties, spot-cleaning, or minor event preparation tasks before, during, or after events as necessary
  • Support staff with general operational needs to help ensure successful event execution High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and remain calm in fast-paced event environments
  • Excellent customer service and hospitality skills
  • Ability to interact professionally with a wide variety of guests, vendors, and community members
  • Dependable, organized, and detail-oriented
  • Interest in history, museums, historic preservation, or cultural sites preferred
  • Evening and weekend availability required based on event schedules
