Job Description

Conference/Event Manager The Organization The New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (NYS AHPERD), is a non-profit, professional membership service organization. We are committed to providing quality professional development and services to our more than 3,000 health, physical education, recreation and dance professionals, future professionals and retired members. We strive to be the leading resource and advocate for health, physical education, recreation and dance in New York. Primary Objectives The Conference & Events Manager is responsible for the planning, coordination and execution of our annual conference which hosts 1,500+ attendees from across New York State each year. This position will also assist with the planning of additional professional development opportunities and quarterly leadership meetings. The role works closely with staff, volunteers and external presenters and companies. Some overnight travel is required throughout the year. This description is not an exclusive statement of the responsibilities of the position. Other appropriate duties will be required. Job Requirements Degree or equivalent experience in event management, hospitality, marketing, communication or related fields. Full-time, in-office position, Monday-Friday Occasional evenings and travel Skills/Capabilities Meticulous attention to detail with strong organizational, multitasking abilities. Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to think on your feet and make quick decisions. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; articulates ideas clearly and concisely. Ability to collaborate with other staff members and volunteers. Skilled at soliciting and build relationships with presenters, vendors/exhibitors and venues. Ability to meet deadlines. Experience with the following computer programs: Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, Publisher, etc.), Google Suites (e.g. Google Forms, Google Sheets, Google Slides, etc.), Canva Design Suite and/or Adobe InDesign Social media creation, posting and management helpful
