ABOUT THE POSITION
CenterPlace is a 54,000 sq. ft. regional event facility that has a variety of meeting and conference facilities. This facility will be used for regional conferences, meetings, banquets, weddings, fundraisers, events, performances, senior activities and more. CenterPlace has high tech audio/visual equipment, diverse facility rooms, layouts, and outdoor event space. Spokane Valley is seeking enthusiastic employees to serve as part-time CenterPlace Event Support. These positions emphasize friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable service. Ideal candidates would have exceptional customer service skills and a willingness to contribute to the team. This is a flexible part-time position with available shifts to include days, nights and weekends based on the candidate's availability.
SELECTED EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
CenterPlace Event Support staff are responsible for assisting with group needs while the event is in progress. CenterPlace Event Support must be able to work in a team environment, follow instruction, possess knowledge of computers, and be able to communicate in a professional manner. Event staff may perform other related duties as required. Primary duties of this position include but are not limited to:
  • Provide day-of support for all events at CenterPlace Regional Event Center
  • Set-up and tear-down for events including tables, chairs, linens and dishes
  • AV equipment setup and support
  • Working through stressful situations utilizing strong communication skills, leadership, and patience.
  • Prevent accidents and injuries and properly report and document all incidents.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Graduation from high school or GED preferred. Experience in banquets, convention set-up or other related hospitality experience is a plus.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to perform tasks accurately and with little direction. A willingness to expend extra effort. Must be able to lift 20-50 lbs. Must have ability to work effectively as a member of a team and effectively communicate with staff and the public. Must show the ability to work cooperatively with other staff and be able to express ideas clearly, both verbally and in writing.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a valid State driver's license or have the ability to obtain one prior to employment. Successful completion of a criminal history check and pre-employment physical is a requirement of employment at Spokane Valley.
COMPENSATION
Wage will be $17.13/hour and work approximately 10-30 hours a week depending on event reservations. This position is ineligible for City sponsored benefits including PERS retirement. However, the position is covered by Workers Compensation insurance and subject to Federal withholdings for Social Security, Medicare, and income taxes. This is an at-will, non-represented, FLSA non-exempt, part-time position in the Parks and Recreation Department.
