Overview Join our dynamic team as a Deli Clerk and become the heart of our fresh food department! Duties Prepare, package, and display a variety of deli meats, cheeses, salads, and prepared foods with precision and care. Operate POS (Point of Sale) systems efficiently for retail sales transactions, ensuring accurate cash handling and receipt processing. Assist customers by providing product demos, offering suggestions, and upselling items to enhance their shopping experience. Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the deli area, including stocking shelves, merchandising products attractively, and rotating stock to ensure freshness. Manage inventory levels by monitoring stock, placing orders when necessary, and conducting regular stock checks. Provide excellent customer service through friendly communication, phone etiquette, and attentive assistance to meet diverse customer needs. Supervise or assist in supervising team members during shifts to ensure smooth operations and high standards of service. Demonstrate product knowledge by explaining ingredients or preparation methods when asked by customers. Skills Proven experience with retail sales transactions using POS systems; familiarity with cash handling procedures is essential. Strong communication skills to engage confidently with customers in both bilingual (English/Spanish or other languages) environments. Previous grocery store or deli experience preferred; knowledge of merchandising techniques is a plus. Ability to perform basic math calculations accurately for cash register operations and inventory management. Demonstrated customer service skills with a positive attitude and professional phone etiquette. Supervising experience is advantageous for leadership opportunities within the team. Experience with upselling techniques to increase sales while ensuring customer satisfaction.
