Full Job Description About ORIS:
The Organization for Refugee & Immigrant Success (ORIS) is a non-profit community-based organization with a mission to aid in the resettlement of refugees and immigrants by providing assistance, training, resources, and opportunities that promote self-sufficiency. ORIS programs support new Americans to hone their strengths and transform barriers as they integrate into and become leaders within their communities. ORIS programming includes the New American Sustainable Agriculture Program (NASAP) farmer training and business development, food access initiatives, Healthy Families victim advocacy and case management, New American Africans, youth development, and workforce development.
About Fresh Start Farms:
Fresh Start Farms is a collective brand for farmers participating in the New American Sustainable Agriculture Program. The Fresh Start Food Hub opened in 2020 and organizes and actively manages the aggregation, distribution, and marketing of produce from Fresh Start Farmers and other local producers. The food from the Fresh Start Food Hub is distributed through a Farmshare CSA, a mobile market, wholesale accounts, and various food access initiatives.
Job Overview:
Our Mobile Market is a farmers market on wheels that brings fresh, local, and affordable food closer to low-income neighborhoods in Manchester and Concord. The Market allows customers to significantly stretch their dollar without having to worry about public transportation costs and schedules, childcare, and other barriers. The Food Access Coordinator position requires a versatile set of skills, including food handling, merchandising, and ensuring that our customers have a dignified, convenient and reliable shopping experience. We seek an individual who has an unwavering enthusiasm for promoting fresh produce, fostering community connections, and advocating for food equity.
Key Responsibilities:
The Food Access Coordinator will operate the retail aspects of the Mobile Market and, as part of a cross-functional team, will support general Food Hub activities, including: Providing friendly, efficient, and courteous customer service to maintain a positive experience for market customers. Loading produce onto the Mobile Market and arranging them for display at each stop. Driving a 9-foot cargo van with an attached trailer (16 feet long) to regular stops and community sites throughout Manchester and Concord. Checking produce quality and ensuring that it meets standards. Helping customers with produce and product selection, recipes, etc. to inform their purchases. Managing the register for all Mobile Market sales, including cash, credit, debit, and
SNAP/EBT
transactions, along with appropriate discounts and/or coupons. Bagging and restocking produce as needed. Working with the Distribution Lead to receive food deliveries to the Food Hub and organize them in the appropriate temperature zones. Conducting inventory checks and reporting them to the Operations Manager to ensure that products are adequately stocked. Cleaning the Mobile Market vehicle and trailer to align with food safety and customer standards. Acting as an educator for SNAP/EBT, DUFB and other local/state/federal public benefits that increase people's purchasing power (appropriate training will be provided). Working with volunteers to deepen connections with customers and the broader community. Assist the Program Coordinator to donate unsold and gleaned produce for local pantries. Assist in packing produce into FarmShare boxes according to weekly orders. Assist with other Fresh Start Farms and ORIS duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required :
Experience in food/grocery retail, agriculture, non-profits, community outreach, customer service, or other relevant fields. Experience operating farmer's markets is a plus. Must have a driver's license and clean driving record. Demonstrated ability to engage with diverse communities and partners in a sensitive and competent manner. Strong time management, customer service, and organizational skills. Comfortable working in very hot and very cold conditions. Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds, and the mobility required to do so in a confined space.
Preferred:
Interest in food security and access, local food systems, sustainable agriculture, community development, and/or issues impacting New American communities. Candidates who cook with lots of fresh produce or have Ability to display produce in a visually appealing and thoughtful manner, artists are encouraged to apply! Proficiency in another language will be considered an asset (Kinyarwanda, Kirundi, Maay Maay, French, Nepali, Spanish, Swahili etc.). Multilingual candidates are highly encouraged to apply.
Pay:
$20.00 - $22.00 per hour
