Job Description

Company Overview ShopRite Supermarkets is looking to hire for our Seafood department in Scarsdale, NY. The job purpose of a Seafood Clerk is to receive, prepare, display, and sell fresh and frozen seafood products with expert knowledge and strict adherence to food safety standards, while providing exceptional customer service and ensuring the cleanliness and visual appeal of the seafood department.
Duties Product Handling & Preparation :
Accurately receiving and inspecting seafood deliveries, properly storing products, cleaning, scaling and filleting fish, and preparing other seafood items according to customer requests and company standards.
Customer Service & Expertise :
Greeting customers, providing knowledgeable advice on seafood types, preparation methods, cooking instructions, and portion sizes, and efficiently fulfilling customer orders.
Merchandising & Display :
Creating attractive and sanitary displays of fresh seafood on ice, ensuring proper labeling, pricing, and rotation (FIFO - First-In, First-Out) to maintain freshness and visual appeal.
Sanitation & Hygiene :
Strictly adhering to all food safety (HACCP), cleaning, sanitation, and hygiene regulations, including proper handwashing, cross-contamination prevention, regular cleaning of equipment (machinery, cases), and maintaining a clean workstation.
Inventory & Waste Management :
Monitoring inventory levels, minimizing shrink and waste through proper handling and rotation, and assisting with ordering as needed.
Equipment Operation :
Safely and proficiently operating seafood department equipment such as scales, knives, ice machines, and packaging equipment.
Problem Resolution :
Addressing customer concerns regarding seafood quality or service, or escalating issues to management as necessary.
Professional Conduct and Communication :
Following management instructions, providing constructive feedback, completing all required training (including on company technologies and equipment), adhering to company policies and health regulations, and operating powered equipment only if trained. Performing all other duties as assigned by management. Skills Demonstrate basic math and English language proficiency.
Meet physical demands:
stand, walk, crouch, bend, stretch, regularly lift 25 lbs., up to 50 lbs., and perform duties that require significant walking, pushing, and pulling of equipment. Work in varying temperature conditions.
Pay & Benefits Hourly Pay Range:
$17.00-$18.50 This position is eligible for vision, dental, life insurance, and legal plan benefits, which become available on a graduated basis over time according to the terms of the collective bargaining agreement ("CBA"). Paid time off (sick time, personal days, vacation days, and holidays) will accrue on a graduated basis over time in accordance with the CBA. Retirement benefits (pension or 401k) become available over time in accordance with the CBA.
Pay:
$17.00 - $18.50 per hour
