Full-Time Position Overview The Food Service Worker (FSW) supports daily food service operations within the Nutrition Services Division. This role includes food preparation support, meal service, sanitation, ware washing, and customer assistance in a hospital dining environment.

The position begins with supervised On-the-Job Training (OJT) and transitions to independent performance of duties within 80 hours of training. Key ResponsibilitiesFood Service & Customer Support Set up cafeteria lines, steam tables, dining areas, and service stations. Serve food in standardized portions following established recipes and supervisor guidance. Assist customers during meal service, including tray handling upon request. Restock dining and hygiene stations as needed. Sanitation & Food Safety Follow Tri-Service Food Code standards and department sanitation policies. Maintain food safety practices and report potential safety risks. Restock and maintain handwashing and hair restraint stations. Dishwashing & Equipment Operation Operate and maintain mechanical dishwashers and three-bay sink systems. Clean pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment. Safely operate kitchen equipment including slicers, mixers, peelers, steam kettles, and commercial dish machines. Cleaning & Maintenance Perform heavy-duty cleaning of kitchen and food service areas. Clean floors, walls, ceilings, walk-in refrigerators, and exhaust systems. Dispose of trash and recycling according to hospital guidelines. Break down and clean service areas after meals. Compliance & Training Complete required orientation and annual mandatory training. Maintain a current Common Access Card (CAC) and ID badge. Follow OSHA and safety regulations at all times. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Ability to complete 24-hour orientation training. Ability to learn all food service areas within 80 hours of OJT. Food sanitation and safety training in accordance with Tri-Service Food Code. Strong customer service skills. Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently. Basic math and computer skills required. Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 40 lbs (heavier items with assistance). Must be able to safely operate kitchen equipment after training. Must adhere to OSHA, sanitation, and safety guidelines. Physical Requirements Prolonged standing and walking. Lifting, pushing carts, and handling heavy kitchen equipment. Wearing required protective gear (e.g., hearing protection).
