ABOUT US
Magnolia Coffee is an award-winning, socially conscious specialty coffee roastery in Matthews, NC. We source with integrity, build direct relationships with producers, and roast coffees that reflect our commitment to quality and community. As we grow, we are looking for a versatile, skilled Production Roaster to be a cornerstone of our team — someone who can both craft exceptional roasts and ensure every order leaves our facility with care and precision.
THE ROLE
The Production Roaster is a full-time, dual-function role that sits at the heart of Magnolia Coffee operations. You will split your time between the roaster and the fulfillment bench — executing production roasts to our quality standards, contributing to our cupping program, and fulfilling retail and wholesale orders with accuracy and efficiency. This is an ideal role for a specialty coffee professional who loves the full craft of the roastery, from green coffee to the customer's door.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Roasting & Production Execute production roasts on schedule using established roast profiles Monitor and document roast data to ensure consistency and quality across batches Adjust roast profiles as needed in response to green coffee variability and seasonal changes Maintain accurate production logs and roast records Coordinate roast scheduling to meet retail and wholesale demand Quality & Cupping Participate in regular cuppings to evaluate roast quality, consistency, and incoming green coffee Provide sensory feedback and contribute to roast profile development Flag quality concerns and communicate findings to ownership Order Fulfillment Pick, pack, and ship direct-to-consumer online retail orders accurately and on schedule Fulfill bulk wholesale orders for cafes, restaurants, and business accounts Prepare packaging to brand standards and verify order accuracy before shipping Process outbound shipments and maintain an organized, well-stocked fulfillment area Assist with inventory tracking and communicate stock needs proactively Coffee Blending Execute blend recipes using calibrated scales, following established roastery formulas Document batch details — weights, lot numbers, and dates — for full traceability Keep blending equipment and work surfaces clean and food-safe at all times Equipment & Facility Perform routine cleaning and preventive maintenance on roasting equipment Ensure all production areas are organized, safe, and compliant with food safety standards Report equipment issues or maintenance needs promptly
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Minimum 2 years of specialty coffee roasting experience in a production environment Minimum 2 years of cupping experience with strong sensory evaluation skills Proficiency reading and interpreting roast curves and production data Working knowledge of green coffee and how origin, processing, and density affect roast development Ability to lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly; comfort with physical, hands-on production work Strong attention to detail, reliability, and a collaborative team attitude Preferred Experience with roast logging software (Cropster, Artisan, or similar) SCA certifications or formal sensory training Prior experience in a fulfillment, warehouse, or wholesale distribution environment Passion for specialty coffee and a desire to grow with an independent roastery
