The Assistant Brewer is responsible for assisting the Head Brewer in all daily back of house brewing operations as well as cellaring and packaging duties. This is a non-supervisory position working directly for the Head Brewer. The Assistant Brewer assist where needed while being safety-minded, efficient, and quality-focused while consistently producing the most delicious beer possible. The Assistant Brewer will need to be well-versed in craft beer and willing and excited to learn and grow with us. Weekly hours will range between 24-32, more durring the summer peek production months. This a great opportunity for a hardworking and self-motivated individual to learn alongside our head brewer, taproom, and sales staff, and develop a career in the craft beer industry.
Job Responsibilities :
Reports to head brewer Assists Head Brewer in all aspects of wort production, cellaring, transfers, tank cleaning, and packaging Assists Head Brewer with weighing malts and hops, grain milling, hauling spent grain, transferring beer to serving vessels recording brewing logs, cleaning, and sanitizing all equipment Monitors water quality, gravities, temperatures, and carbonations Assists Head Brewer in equipment maintenance and repair as necessary Maintains the use of standard operating procedures to ensure the beer is produced consistently, free of defects, true to style and of the highest quality Participates in critical beer assessments and Quality control Program Stays current with developing beer styles and help develop new beer recipes Assists with recipe development as requested Maintains a safe, clean, and sanitary work environment, including but not limited to tank CIP (Clean In Place) and SIP (Sanitize In Place), cleaning floors, drains and outside surfaces of tanks, and be especially conscientious and meticulous during all chemical handling procedures Working Environment The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job but may not be all inclusive. Typical work week = 24-32 hours, more hours may be required during summer high brew production. Some weekends and overtime will apply from time to time, but the bulk of the work will be done business hours M-F between 7am-3pm. Exposure to various temperature changes. Able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (eye protection, ear plugs, gloves, boots, etc.). Other duties as required by the Head Brewer for efficient production. Job Requirements. The Assistant Brewer is a critical position and must be a team player maintaining the ability to work well with others in order to accomplish Waterline Brewing Co. goals. Incumbent must possess and demonstrate the ability to think critically and multi-task while maintaining a well-developed attention to detail. Strong time management and communication skills are also required. The Assistant Brewer must be able to sit, crouch, kneel, bend over, twist, kneel, stand for the duration of a shift, often in wet, hot, and cold environments. Be able to lift 55 pounds, and maneuver 160 pounds repeatedly. Must be willing and able to climb stairs and ladders. Be able to handle hazardous materials and chemicals and operate complex machinery properly and consistently. Highly organized with a strong attention to cleanliness.Desired Experience/ Traits:
Brewing experience (1+ years) Personal curiosity, desire to learn and eager to improve skills in brewing. Strong time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, listening, critical thinking, verbal and written communication skills. Honest, dependable, high integrity, passionate about craft beer, and a team player.Experience:
High School Diploma or GED Experience in cellaring and brewing production is requiredCompensation and Benefits:
Shift beers, and cans for personal use to take home. After completing a 90 day probationary period, hourly pay will be evaluated based on skills.Job Type:
