is seeking a part time assistant brewer for the brewpub in downtown Madison, one block from the State Capitol. Located in a historic hotel, we offer an exciting lineup of 19 beers, with a mix of consistent year-round brews and rotating seasonals. We offer a wide variety of styles, including traditional German, English, Belgian and Czech beers as well as innovative, fun new beers. The assistant brewer aids the Head Brewer in all aspects of beer production, from proper handling of raw materials to ensuring beer pours properly from the taps. Candidates must have a team-oriented mindset and possess a strong work ethic. This position requires flexibility and knowledge of all aspects of brewing and cellaring. Prior brewing experience is preferred; however, self-motivation and the ability to learn quickly are more important and we are willing to train the right candidate. Mechanical aptitude and some computer skills necessary. This position is part-time, with hours varying seasonally from approximately 24-32 hours per week. There is some flexibility in scheduling re: start/end times and preferred days of the week. The right candidate may have the option to fill an additional position within the company to reach full-time hours if desired. Examples of other possible roles include: Helping with maintenance work and facilities upkeep Helping with deliveries between Dane locations A front-of-house position such as a bartender, server, host or expeditor Possibility for administrative/office work
Position Responsibilities:
Wort production in 10BBL brewhouse Clean, sanitize, and operate 2m DE filter Clean and sanitize tanks, hoses, and fittings Clean and maintain all brewery areas Receive raw materials, rotate stock, and take inventory Yeast handling and pitching Regular tap line cleaning Maintain detailed, accurate records Fill kegs for wholesale and in-house use, assist with occasional intercompany deliveries Work occasional weekend or evening events such as beer festivals, staff training, etc
Key Requirements:
Comprehension of fundamentals of brewing Ability to effectively multi-task Very stringent with cleanliness and CIP procedures Willingness to work some nights and weekends Self-motivated problem solver Able to lift up to 75 pounds and regularly move up to 165 pounds Strong communication skills Ability to work independently Computer skills
  • working knowledge of Excel and/or Google Sheets required A passion for craft beer

During years 1-4, you will earn two weeks of vacation. After 5 years you will earn 3 weeks of vacation time per year. For hourly staff, vacation is allotted based on an average of hours worked in the prior 4 payrolls before the vacation pay is taken. E.g. If you're eligible for 1 week of vacation and have worked an avg of 36 hours for the prior 4 payrolls, your "week" of vacation pay equals 36 hours.
