Service Staff Job Description:
The F&B Captain is responsible for assisting the Food & Beverage management with the overall operation of service. They must have a strong floor presence to oversee that staff consistently achieves the level of service in line with The Buffalo Club's standards always striving for a high degree of member care and to providing an exceptional and memorable guest experience.
General Requirements:
  • Complies with The Buffalo Club's Mission & Vision statement.
  • Report to work at the scheduled time, neatly groomed and dressed in accordance with The Buffalo Club's appearance standards.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Anticipate guest and contact needs, ascertain satisfaction, and respond urgently and appropriately to concerns and requests.
  • Exceptional communication abilities when interacting/ directing associates, guests, clients and internal departments to build relationships.
  • Able to consistently perform tasks with little direct supervision.
  • Works harmoniously and professionally with co-workers.
Essential Functions:
  • Actively involved in assigned area, touching tables, and building member connections.
  • Strong leadership qualities and management techniques to successfully lead and support their assigned shift.
  • Provide direction to the service staff on pre-event setups, work assignments, closing and resetting needs.
  • Immediately respond to any guest issues and resolves within the scope of authority; otherwise escalates to management and assists in developing action plans to correct issues.
  • Respond to any associate issues in a timely manner, escalates to management when needed and assists in developing action plans to correct issues.
  • Assists in managing reservations and BEO floor plans/ server sections based on anticipated guest count.
  • Inspect assigned areas daily, prior to and at the end of each shift for proper setup, cleanliness, organization, maintenance, proper breakdown, and secure areas.
  • Insures all daily side work is completed and that all cleaning of the assigned areas equipment is accomplished according to schedule.
  • Have basic knowledge of Audio Visual (AV) needs.
  • Serves as the liaison between the front of house and kitchen.
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of menu items and ability to explain the major ingredients and preparation methods for each item to be served.
  • Participates in or conducts daily pre-shift meetings.
  • Assists in scheduling while operating within budgeted labor cost guidelines. Actively adjusts schedules when needed.
  • Assists Food & Beverage Management to train, motivate, retain, discipline, evaluate and supervise the work of service associates ensuring compliance with Buffalo Club Food and Beverage Mission & Vision statement.
  • Direct associates to maintain the back of the house cleanliness and safety and ensure proper care, security and maintenance of club equipment through proper supervision of associates.
  • Assist Food & Beverage Management in administrative tasks.
  • Attend all required meetings.
  • May serve as the server during periods of slower volume and will regular assist service staff in the care of their tables including watering tables, serving food/drinks, and bussing tables.
  • Greet host (on-site) contact for assigned event and stay in contact throughout the event. Stays until the end of the event and thanks the host and ensures they were happy and satisfied with everything.
  • Actively adjusts schedules according to business levels to control labor.
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision.
  • Perform opening and closing duties.
  • In addition, other duties may be required as directed by your management
Bar Requirements:
  • Assures all Buffalo Club associates are following state and local laws and club policies and procedures for the service of alcoholic beverages during events.
  • Work with F&B Managers to train all associates in the appropriate beverage service in their areas such as cleanliness on and stocking properly.
  • General inventory knowledge.
  • Passionate about mixology, knowledgeable about our beverage program and offerings and has strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Basic wine knowledge.
  • Assist with maintaining menus, wine lists and seasonal offerings.
  • Monitor beverage quality, presentation, and consistency while upholding high service standards.
Qualifications:
Must be 18 years of age. Excellent interpersonal skills Strong written and verbal communication skills Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office) Must have full availability and able to work a flexible shift
Education:
High school or equivalent education required. Four-year hospitality degree preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 1-2 years as restaurant captain / supervisor or 5 years' server experience. Upscale restaurant or private club experience strongly preferred.
Licenses & Certificates:
Ability to obtain and/or maintain any government required licenses, certificates or permits. TIPS or Barcode or related alcohol service certification is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to continuously stand and walk a minimum of an 8-hour shift. Must be able to bend, kneel, push and pull over the course of a shift. Must be able to reach overhead and must be able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. Will be occasionally required to perform job functions outdoors and be exposed to sun, heat, humidity and other elements.
