Job Description

Part-time Game Show Host / Escape Room Host In Search Of An Exit Escape Rooms Portland, OR Job Details Part-time $20 - $25 an hour 9 hours ago Benefits Employee discount Professional development assistance Flexible schedule Referral program Qualifications Interpersonal skills Attention to detail Venue customer assistance Room tidying Clean workspace maintenance Full Job Description We are looking for a funny and outgoing host for our escape rooms and our new game show! We like to think of the job as a warm-up comedian for a studio audience. You're getting the customers in a good mood before the main event. First and foremost, this is primarily a customer service gig. At the end of the day this is about making sure the customers that come through are having fun. Which is to say, above all else, we're looking for an enthusiastic and outgoing person with excellent interpersonal skills. Being a detail-oriented quick-learner with the patience of a saint who calls their mother every weekend is all well and good, but being able to make small talk with strangers, is— believe it or not— more important. For the escape rooms you'll be: Welcoming players as they arrive. Explaining the game's rules and story. Monitoring players' progress, providing hints as they play. Operating the Rube Goldbergesque control room behind the scenes. Debriefing with players who lose, celebrating with those who win. Taking post-game photos for each team. Resetting the game after each session. For the game show, your primary job entails: Welcoming players as they arrive. Running the game show! (Obviously.) Making sure everyone feels engaged in the game. Taking post-game photos for each team. Resetting the game after each session. When you're not running games, there's
STILL MORE TO DO
General upkeep of the games. Clean (both behind the scenes and in front of the scenes). General improvement of the games. Organize, organize, organize. Running errands (lots of hardware store trips). Assisting with the build out of our fourth game! Playtesting things (of course). This gig is a part-time situation, so your hours will vary from week to week depending on bookings, but figure about 10-15 hours per week scattered around the week (as the newest employee, you'd be picking up shifts after everyone else). Pay is $20/hour in two hour increments for the escape rooms, $25 for the game show, with a four hour minimum per shift. (Each booked timeslot is a one hour game with a half hour before and after for setup.) Our customers tend to be friendly with tips as well! Resumés are welcome, but more important than that is a cover letter or a video, or
SOMETHING
to give us an idea of who you are. We tend to get a lot of applicants, and the ones that stick out are ones we tend to hire. Be bold! Our most recent hire submitted a 13 minute standup routine performed for an audience of zero, and they were basically hired on the spot, if that gives you any ideas.) This posting has probably given you an idea of what we're like (extremely silly), so please, express yourself however you see fit. (And hey, if you can make us laugh, you'll move to the front of the line.) To be clear, applications that only include a resumé will not be considered. Looking forward to hearing from you! (We won't be reviewing applications until next Friday, June 5th at the earliest, so take your time with your application!)
